Chapter 30: The Three Great Forest Rulers Arrive at Carne Village
2024-11-18 Author: Amnesty L
After Tang Zheng left E-Rantel in the early morning, he followed the information and a rudimentary map he had gathered from the Adventurer's Guild.
He headed northwest, toward the outermost border region of the Re-Estize Kingdom, near the Touv Great Forest.
There was a place called Carne Village.
This village.
It was a border village with a history spanning nearly a hundred years, but despite its long history, it couldn't change the village's impoverished status.
Within the Kingdom, it was an utterly inconspicuous, even overlooked, existence. Yet, in the anime, it was central to a series of plotlines!
Of course.
This village had no actual connection to the various plotlines; it was more like a plot hub.
"WAAHH!"
From the grass thicket on a desolate small hillock by the roadside, a goblin that had been lurking suddenly charged out.
Tang Zheng's gaze flickered, the iron sword at his waist instantly unsheathed. He easily dodged the ambushing goblin with a sidestep while simultaneously swinging his arm down to strike.
Pfft!
The blade flashed!
The goblin let out a shriek, its body sliced in half on the spot.

Tang Zheng expressionlessly flicked the green blood off his iron sword, his gaze sweeping the surroundings. Four more goblins emerged from the grass thicket.
"Truly troublesome creatures," Tang Zheng thought, and then spoke:
"Magic Arrow!"
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
After consuming 5 points of mana, Tang Zheng spent another point to conjure four magic arrows in one breath, firing them at the four goblins that had appeared.
Four green blood blossoms bloomed!
As the sounds of bodies hitting the ground echoed, information appeared on his stat panel.

"The experience is similar to that from wild beasts. I should be able to gain one level by the time I reach Carne Village. Leveling up in the early stages is indeed quite fast."
Tang Zheng walked forward and cut off all the ears of the dead goblins. After all, goblin ears could be exchanged for money at the Adventurer's Guild.
This was a considerable income.
During the rest of his journey.
Tang Zheng encountered several more waves of attacks, but this time, it wasn't just goblins; there were also some small magical beasts.
Under these circumstances, Tang Zheng finally arrived at a small village surrounded by wooden fences, with faint wisps of cooking smoke rising into the evening sky.
A quick glance revealed.
Such defensive wooden fences offered little resistance against attacks from monsters in the forest!
And yet, Carne Village, located so close to the Touv Great Forest, had always existed without being destroyed by monsters, which was an interesting fact in itself.
Having occasionally encountered monster attacks throughout his journey, Tang Zheng's understanding of this was naturally the most profound.
After leaving E-Rantel, the number of monsters and goblins gradually increased, but the closer he got to Carne Village, the fewer monsters he encountered.
This was because, within the Touv Great Forest, there existed three great monsters known as the Forest Rulers!
The Forest Ruler in the south, the Great Magical Beast—Forest Sage King Hamsuke.
The Forest Ruler in the east, the Eastern Giant—Troll Gu!
The Forest Ruler in the west, the Western Demon Serpent—Naga Rulalusi!
These three beings could be said to jointly dominate the entire Touv Great Forest, and Carne Village was precisely Forest Sage King Hamsuke's territory.
This was also why no monsters attacked Carne Village.
These three Forest Rulers were all around level 30, with Forest Sage King Hamsuke being slightly higher. By human standards, they were all beings who had stepped into the Heroic Realm.
However, humans who were also in the Heroic Realm would almost certainly not be a match for the three Forest Rulers in a one-on-one fight!
This was the advantage of demi-humans or heteromorphic races.
Tang Zheng shifted his gaze from Carne Village's gate, looking toward the seemingly endless, primeval jungle in the distance, already visible to the naked eye.
His vision was obstructed by the towering, dense foliage, preventing him from seeing anything, yet Tang Zheng's eyes showed gravity and apprehension.
Within the Touv Great Forest, the truly terrifying entities were not the three Forest Rulers!
Rather, it was a being located deep within the forest's depths!
Two hundred years ago, one of the monsters that descended upon this world during the era of the Thirteen Heroes was the 'Demon Tree'. Its level reached as high as 85. Even then, it wasn't completely eradicated, merely sealed away in the deepest depths of the Touv Great Forest.
When the anime's storyline began, Shalltear suddenly encountered the forces of the Slane Theocracy's strongest scripture, the Black Scripture, who were also carrying the World Item [Downfall of Castle and Country].
It was entirely due to Shalltear's bad luck!
The true purpose of the Black Scripture's deployment, carrying a World Item, was that the seal on the 'Demon Tree' had begun to loosen.
They intended to break the Demon Tree's seal and, incidentally, use the World Item [Downfall of Castle and Country] to control it, but instead encountered Shalltear.
This resulted in a bizarre battle between the two sides!
In the anime, it was merely glossed over, but in the light novel version, there was some description.
The Black Scripture suffered heavy losses. The human who used the World Item was even killed by Shalltear in a dying counterattack before full control could be exerted.
This was also why Shalltear, despite being controlled, turned into a 'wild monster'; it was entirely because the person who used [Downfall of Castle and Country] had died.
"Who are you?!"
Suddenly, at the entrance of Carne Village, two middle-aged villagers appeared, holding steel forks. They looked at Tang Zheng, who had appeared at their village gate, with wary and vigilant expressions.
"Excuse me, I am a traveler passing by the village, and I wish to lodge here for the night," Tang Zheng said softly, maintaining a gentle demeanor as he looked at the two.
Upon hearing this.
The two villagers, holding steel forks, exchanged glances. The wariness and vigilance in their eyes did not dissipate at all; instead, they first cast a glance behind Tang Zheng.
Only when they saw that Tang Zheng was alone did the expressions of the two villagers slightly relax.
"Wait a moment."
The two villagers clearly couldn't make a decision. One of them spoke to Tang Zheng, then quickly turned and ran into the village.
He didn't have to wait long.
The villager who had left returned, accompanied by a man who appeared to be in his late forties or fifties, with somewhat dark, rough skin and grayish-brown hair.
From his appearance, he seemed to be the Village Chief of Carne Village.
After the Village Chief arrived, he carefully scrutinized Tang Zheng, his gaze lingering particularly on Tang Zheng's black hair.
"You're here to lodge?" the Village Chief asked with a somewhat rough voice.
"That's right."
Tang Zheng nodded.
"Then please, come in," the Village Chief said readily, without asking any further questions.
This came as a slight surprise to Tang Zheng.
Carne Village rarely had outsiders visiting throughout the year, with the only exceptions being tax collectors and merchants buying herbs in late autumn.
"Village Chief?"
The two villagers asked in surprise, clearly not expecting the Village Chief to agree so readily.
It was already evening, and someone arriving at their village at this hour clearly made the two villagers uneasy.
"These past one or two months have been the most restless time for the magical beasts and wild beasts in the forest," the Village Chief sighed lightly, opening the fence.
Only then did the two villagers realize that although their village was peaceful, the path leading here was certainly not.
The fact that this person could arrive here alone showed his extraordinary strength; the village's wooden fences would not be able to stop him at all.
And since he didn't force his way in, it indicated that the black-haired young man bore no ill will.
Having figured out this crucial point.
The two villagers also dropped their initial guard.
Led by the Village Chief, Tang Zheng entered Carne Village with him.
