Chapter 249

Chapter 226: The Mithril Squad of E-Rantel, a Magical Battle

The scent of blood from both sides of the road drifted on the cold wind.

Four figures watched Tang Zheng's party with indifferent expressions, making the air feel stagnant.

*Rattle—*

"Grrrrowl!"

The Evil Spirit Hound stared fiercely at the four people ahead, its mouth open to reveal its teeth. The bone chain on its body writhed slowly, creating the sound of rattling metal.

Enri bit her lip nervously, her hands gripping the short sword trembling slightly.

Even without a clear grasp of their relative strength, she could sense in this environment that the four blocking their path were far stronger than the attackers Miss Cui Ye had just killed.

"Hee hee."

A barely audible giggle sounded.

Enri subconsciously glanced toward the Green Leaf Witch, only to find Miss Cui Ye still expressionless.

*Did I mishear that?*

The thought flashed through Enri's mind. She drew back her light brown eyes and noticed that Miss Cui Ye, who was usually nonchalant about everything, seemed to have grown a bit more serious.

This further proved that the four figures blocking their path were no ordinary enemies.

"These people are so hateful. Lord Captain is such a good person."

A wave of indignation inexplicably rose in Enri's heart.

During this time, she had learned why people were attacking them: it was because of the bounty issued by that emperor from the Baharuth Empire.

Fifty thousand gold coins!

The number was suffocating, an astronomical figure that Enri found unimaginable.

But the Baharuth Empire was clearly an enemy of their Re-Estize Kingdom. For these bad people to try and kill the Lord Captain just for money...

"A bit troublesome," the Green Leaf Witch noted internally, calmly observing the four figures opposite her.

Unlike the humans she had killed before, these four gave her a sense of danger.

Based on the previous encounters, if she were to face them alone, it would likely take some time to finish them off completely.

*Crack!*

Among the four people ahead, a man in his thirties with red hair, a short beard, and wearing light leather armor stepped forward with a hearty laugh:

"A pleasure to meet you, members of Free Will. You may not pass."

"Then again, offending an alchemist who can so easily create regeneration potions is not a smart choice."

"But the bounty on the Lord Alchemist is simply too high. Compared to a friendship that cannot be measured in value, I personally find gold coins more reassuring."

The other three members followed with a laugh.

Tang Zheng's gaze swept over the four. The red-haired man was likely the captain of this squad. As for the other three: an archer with a bow and arrow on his back, a magic caster in a cloak holding a staff, and one more, dressed rather strangely, with the Holy Seal of the Earth God around his neck but holding a short-handled hammer as a weapon.

Faced with this scene, Tang Zheng propped himself up with his hands on the carriage and stood up, sighing, "An adventurer attacking another adventurer should be forbidden by the rules of the Adventurer's Guild."

"In all of E-Rantel, there are three Mithril-rank adventurer squads: Kralgura, Sirius, and Rainbow. Which one are you?"

Tang Zheng was slightly curious. These three Mithril-rank adventurer squads had a great reputation in E-Rantel, so finding out about them wasn't difficult.

"That, I cannot say."

The Red-haired Captain's heart tightened when he saw that, apart from the nervous Enri, the other two in Tang Zheng's party were completely calm. "Some of the Adventurer's Guild regulations are indeed a bit of a headache."

"But rest assured, some of the Guild's rules are meant to restrict ordinary adventurers. For adventurers of our level, as long as we don't cause a major incident, the Guild will just turn a blind eye."

"Boss, enough with the pointless talk!" the somewhat skinny man holding the bow and arrow interjected coldly. "Their magic caster already used up a lot of magic power dealing with those losers! We can't give him time to recover his magic power now."

At the same moment the archer spoke, the squad member with the iron hammer and the Holy Seal of the Earth God around his neck snapped his eyes open and shouted, "It's ready! Second-Tier Magic: Earth Collapse!"

*Boom!*

The ground beneath the Evil Spirit Hound suddenly caved in, its body uncontrollably falling into the pit below.

"Roar!"

The Evil Spirit Hound roared. Its sturdy body reacted mid-fall, its forelimbs clawing at the edge of the pit, trying to climb out.

"This Evil Spirit Hound is mine! I've been wanting to get my hands on an Evil Spirit Hound's bone chain to use as a weapon for ages!" the man with the iron hammer roared excitedly as he rushed toward the Evil Spirit Hound.

"One down," the Red-haired Captain smiled faintly. His chat with Tang Zheng just now wasn't pointless talk; it was to buy time for his teammate to prepare his magic.

*Bang!*

The ground shook.

The Red-haired Captain raised the sharp longsword in his hand and charged forward. "You two, hold back that troublesome magician."

Along the way, they had gathered a great deal of information by observing the traces of combat left after Tang Zheng's party dealt with their opponents.

The only uncertainty was the genius alchemist himself.

A Mithril-rank adventurer team against a Gold-rank adventurer team should be a complete stomp, no matter how you looked at it.

But to have a bounty placed on him by the Emperor of the Baharuth Empire and to have even escaped the Empire showed that this black-haired kid couldn't be analyzed solely by his adventurer level.

"Second-Tier Magic: Lesser Strength Augmentation!"

The magic caster in the squad immediately cast a buff-type magic, which landed on the Red-haired Captain.

Not only that.

"Lesser Agility Augmentation!" A magic item on the Red-haired Captain's body flashed with blue light, and his charging speed increased once more.

"I'll leave this to you. Leave them breathing. Xiao Hei, you too," Tang Zheng said, his interest waning.

"Yes."

"Roar!"

Two responses came.

The Green Leaf Witch rose and leaped, her body landing gracefully in front of the carriage.

"Am I being underestimated? Or was my previous assessment wrong?" The thought flashed through the Red-haired Captain's mind as he saw the Green Leaf Witch, but his steps didn't falter for a second.

He knew his teammates would make their move!

"Rapid Shot!"

"Fireball!"

A black arrow and a basketball-sized fireball flew from the rear, moving even faster than the Red-haired Captain to slam into the Green Leaf Witch first.

"Magic Armor."

The Green Leaf Witch said faintly. A verdant green light enveloped her entire body, forming a translucent, armor-shaped magical shield.

*Pow!*

*Thud!*

The arrow and the fireball struck the Green Leaf Witch simultaneously, letting out two explosive booms and creating a spreading airwave.

However.

A look of surprise flashed in the Red-haired Captain's eyes. A dual attack composed of magic and physical force had been easily blocked by the Green Leaf Witch.

"Damn it!"

The Red-haired Captain's original plan to bypass the Green Leaf Witch and attack Tang Zheng directly was halted. He immediately swung the longsword in his hand, crouched low, and shot toward the Green Leaf Witch like a leopard.

"Die!"

The distance between them was extremely short.

The Red-haired Captain knew that since his teammates' attack had failed, attacking Tang Zheng would inevitably leave him open to a pincer attack from the Green Leaf Witch.

Besides, she was a magic caster. At this close range, it would be easier to take out the Witch first.

"Plant Entanglement!"

*Swoosh! Swoosh!*

A tangle of vines shot up rapidly from the ground, winding toward the Red-haired Captain.

"Flying Slash!"

With a flash of cold light, several vines were instantly severed.

In a single breath, the Red-haired Captain had already rushed in front of the Witch, a trace of killing intent and excitement in his eyes. "Second one down! Heavy Strike Slash!"

"Weakness."

"Magic Armor."

The Green Leaf Witch rapidly cast two spells, her breathing becoming slightly ragged.

*Bang!*

The longsword slammed heavily onto the Magic Armor. The rebounding force made the Red-haired Captain's arms go numb, and then his pupils shrank.

"What is with this green-haired girl!"

"She can actually cast two powerful spells at the same time!"

The Red-haired Captain was shaken to his core. He quickly pulled his hands back and kicked off the ground with his rear foot, trying to create distance again.

The Green Leaf Witch also took a step back and, with an icy gaze, cast another spell.

"Corrosive Destruction!"

A glob of acidic liquid flew out. At such a close distance, the Red-haired Captain had no way to dodge.

*Hiss—hiss—*

"Aargh!!"

The Red-haired Captain let out a blood-curdling scream. His light leather armor offered no effective protection and was instantly corroded and destroyed, a large hole melting straight through his chest.

*Clang!*

The longsword fell to the ground.

The Red-haired Captain collapsed, twitching on the ground.

"Ahhh—" Almost at the same time, a miserable wail came from the pit.

The man with the iron hammer, who had jumped into the pit to hunt the Evil Spirit Hound, was now being carried out in the Evil Spirit Hound's jaws before being tossed to the ground.

He, too, was left with only a breath of life.

"How is this possible!"

"Run!!"

Seeing their Captain and companion defeated so quickly, the remaining two squad members wore expressions of terror and disbelief.

Without the slightest hesitation!

The two turned to flee.

"Darkness!" the Green Leaf Witch's voice called out. The surrounding light began to vanish rapidly, swallowed by the encroaching darkness.
