Chapter 139

chapter 090 part 2

Martin's growth rate was too terrifying, so terrifying that even she, who was extensively knowledgeable and had personally witnessed countless monsters across innumerable universes, felt a subtle unease.

"In the multiverse, there is no shortage of rapidly rising deities. But the origins of those deities are all clear, and their powerful methods show obvious clues. Only you, I cannot see through from beginning to end. Unfamiliar power, an unknown system, divine artifacts that are unheard of yet incredibly powerful..."

Death gazed in the direction of the World Tree. In her vision, a phantom of a giant tree stood on one side of the universe, swaying its branches, holding up world after world.

"Decided?" Eternity appeared beside Death.

Death said coldly, "I've decided. I will act to sever this guy's destiny. For other life forms, millions of years would mean very limited growth, and they would easily get lost in wish fulfillment. But Martin is different; he has his own willpower, his own system and goals. Destiny is merely a tool for him, dispensable... I dare not gamble on millions of years; it's better to decisively interrupt him before he fully grows."

Eternity, whose entire being was shrouded in endless shadows, slowly spoke, "I hope you succeed, because if you fail, you will surely face that guy's retaliation. Simple matters will become very troublesome."

Death's eyes flickered. "No need to worry, I will certainly not fail. I am the Death of this universe; can Martin really kill Death?"

Eternity stared at her for a moment, her gaze meaningful, then slowly receded.

Only Death remained, standing alone in the cosmic starry sky, gazing at the infinite stars for a long time.

Finally, Death moved. She slowly raised her hand, extending her skeletal finger, and gently tapped forward. Instantly, countless soul phantoms emerged, charging towards her with infatuation, only to be blocked by an invisible barrier.

These were the souls of the deceased beings in this universe. All the dead ultimately returned to her, Death.

"If there is one being in this universe who can disrupt destiny, it must be you, Thanos... Thanos, whom I deliberately observed and repeatedly spared."

At this moment, on Death's skeletal face, a terrifying smile appeared.

Thanos... the Thanos of this universe was a special one, because he hadn't been toyed with by her. Look at the Thanos's of other universes; each and every one of them she had driven into madness and insanity, each more eager to please her, desperately trying to satisfy her.

Only the Thanos of this universe, she had merely observed coldly, uncharacteristically magnanimous, giving him more freedom to develop. The result had truly given her some surprises.

"Thanos, out of all the Thanos's I've seen, you are the most like a normal... person."

Death's smile was eerie.

The other Thanos's, of course, were all dogs.

Death dragged countless souls from the domain of the Cosmic Law of Death. Finally, she directly pointed at Thanos, who had been dormant for a long time. With a flick of her finger, Thanos's soul directly pierced through the Cosmic Law of Death and was pulled out by her.

Another strange power of cosmic laws burst forth. Thanos's phantom soul gradually solidified, ultimately resurrecting and slowly opening his eyes.

"..."

A long silence.

"It seems I failed, utterly defeated." Thanos's gaze fell upon Death, carrying his usual indifference. "But for a failure like me to actually alarm Death, the deity."

Death let out a strange, cackling laugh, but her response was still Thanos's cold and wary face.

If this were any other Thanos, he would have already been frantically pouncing on her like a dog to lick her.

"Thanos, you are the Child of Destiny for this universe. You were, you are, and you always will be. Even in death, destiny is on your side."

Death chuckled, covering her mouth.

With Thanos's resurrection, this top-tier cosmic deity had keenly noticed that destiny had distinctly trembled, subtly developing a strange centripetal force, as if Thanos ought to be the center of destiny.

Indeed, should it be said that he was worthy of being the favored son chosen and nurtured by this universe's collective consciousness?

Even if destiny was crudely snatched away by Martin, it would instinctively favor Thanos, whom it had personally chosen and fostered.

"I was defeated by Martin; there's nothing more to say about that. I am not his opponent. Whatever purpose you wish to achieve by using me, you will be disappointed." Thanos exhaled, tiredly sitting on a rock, staring blankly at Death.

"Thanos, it's not yet time to give up. As the destiny of the universe, you have an even more glorious future."

Death chuckled softly, then slowly, from an unknown corner of this universe, pulled out a peculiar weapon.

It was a longsword radiating immense power.

"This sword..."

Thanos's gaze sharpened, his face stirring with emotion. He distinctly felt the aura of the Infinity Stones emanating from this longsword!

"The Infinity Stones, the Infinity Gauntlet, and this Infinity Greatsword—the three Infinity items—only together can they truly unleash the power of the infinite to its fullest. But regrettably, everyone only focuses on the Infinity Stones and the Infinity Gauntlet, which can wield their power."

Death tossed the Infinity Greatsword before Thanos. This simplest of actions alone caused terrifying fluctuations to erupt from the longsword, rapidly spreading across the entire universe.

"Now, Thanos, you are truly destined. You, who could originally achieve your goal of eliminating half the universe's population with the Infinity Gauntlet and Infinity Stones, have now gained the favor of the Infinity Greatsword. It will grant you astonishing power."

Death said.

Thanos slowly walked towards the longsword, his gaze fixed intently. He felt an impatient call from within the sword.

His massive hand grasped the hilt. With a slight lift, in that instant, numerous nearby star systems immediately exploded.

"The Infinity Greatsword..."

Thanos's face was filled with shock. On his stirred countenance, roaring flames ignited once more. His dormant ideals now surged back to life.

"Go, Thanos, take it, and fulfill your ideals. Kill the greatest obstacle in your path, cut off his head, and trample it underfoot."

Death's voice contained magic power, continuously inciting Thanos.

"I will do it, not for you, but for my ideals, for the future of this universe. I will do it."

Thanos cast a deep glance at Death. He didn't know what grudge this entity had with Martin, nor what purpose she wished to achieve by using him.

He only knew that his philosophy needed to be carried out.

Just as Death had said.

Find Martin, kill Martin, and with this invincible Infinity Greatsword, sever his head.
