Chapter 879: Silver and Gold
Seeing Kaiba end his turn, Hayato's finger immediately rested beside the button to activate a Set Card on his Duel Disk, his gaze fixed on the Mysterious Person opposite him.
"My turn, draw!" The instant he heard the Mysterious Person draw a card and enter the Standby Phase, Hayato immediately pressed the button.
"Hey, you over there, during your Standby Phase, I activate these two cards from my Spell/Trap Zone!"
As the button was pressed, two more cards in Hayato's Back Row flipped open, revealing one red and one green: the Trap Card Chain Material and the Quick-Play Spell Card Instant Fusion.
"The Effect of Instant Fusion is to Send Fusion Material Monsters determined by a Fusion Monster Card from my Field to the Graveyard and Fusion Summon that Fusion Monster from my Fusion Deck," Hayato paused, then spread his hand, "However, powerful cards often come with great risk. The monster Special Summoned by this Quick Effect Fusion will be destroyed at the End Phase of the turn it is summoned."
"So, even if you Summon some Powerful Monster, it can only exist on the Field for one Turn, and because this isn't your Turn, it can basically only be used for Defense, right?" Hiroya Misawa nodded in understanding, "I see, I completely understand."
"But you said Send Monsters from your Field to the Graveyard or something, don't you only have one Labrynth Archfiend on your Field?"
"Could it be that you're going to Send Kaiba Seto's Blue-Eyes White Dragon to the Graveyard?"
In this 2 VS 2 Duel, Kaiba and Hayato, as teammates, could share monsters on the Field. For example, Kaiba could use Hayato's monster as tribute to Tribute Summon Blue-Eyes White Dragon, and Hayato could use Kaiba's Blue-Eyes White Dragon as Fusion Material.
However, their Fields were in separate states. If the Mysterious Person Attacked Kaiba with a Monster, Kaiba could only use his own Blue-Eyes White Dragon for Defense, not Hayato's Labrynth Archfiend. If Hayato used Instant Fusion to Summon a Fusion Monster, it could only be placed on his own Field, which would result in Kaiba losing his only Monster and having to face the Enemy Monster's Direct Attack.
Hearing Hiroya Misawa's words, Kaiba also turned to glance at Hayato, his eye narrowing.
"Don't look at me like that, Seto. You're my dearest friend, my brother. How could I possibly take your wife—I mean, your Monster?" Hayato quickly reassured Kaiba, then pointed to the other card he had flipped, "While it's true I only have one Monster on my Field, who said I have to use cards on the Field for Fusion?"
"Chain 1 Instant Fusion, Chain 2 Chain Material. The Effect of Chain Material is that when I Perform Fusion Summon this Turn, I can Banish Monsters from areas like the Deck, Hand, Field, or Graveyard to act as Fusion Material. Don't try to guess my divine talent with your mortal wisdom!"
White smoke rose from the Deck Zone of Hayato's Duel Disk. Card after card was automatically Searched by the Duel Disk and handed to Hayato, who Banished them in one go. The rising smoke behind Hayato appeared as several Monsters with various appearances.
Hayato took out a card and held it between his fingertips, calling out the names of the Monsters Banished as Fusion Material one by one: "Gathering to Summon this Card for me are all eleven Infernoid Monsters! I'll say it one last time, the Fusion is accelerating!"
"Decatron, Satan, Beelzebul, Lucifug, Astaroth, Asmodius, Belphegor, Valon, Adramelech, Lilith, Onuncu!"
"Creator God who embodies Chaos, bring forth our wishes from the past! Gather! The Power of Infernoid!"
"Fusion Summon! Infernoid Tierra!"
Colorful flames rose into the air, outlining a massive body. The instant Hayato slammed the card onto his Duel Disk, the deity, a culmination of all eleven Infernoid Monsters, opened its eye.
[Infernoid Tierra] [Level 11/FIRE]
[Fiend-Type/Fusion/Effect]
[3400/3600]
"ATK higher than Blue-Eyes White Dragon!?" Hiroya Misawa didn't notice Kaiba's sudden murderous gaze, muttering to himself, "This image, could it be a reference to Samael, the 'Blind God,' the Creator God with the head of a lion and body of a dragon from Gnosticism, which incorporates elements of Judaism and Christianity?"
"But what's the meaning of Summoning such a Powerful Monster? It's just a disposable item that can only exist for one Turn."
Hiroya Misawa didn't realize Hayato's goal in Summoning Infernoid Tierra, and Hayato couldn't be bothered to say anything to him. He simply waved his hand, "The Turn Chain Material is used, I Cannot Attack. Infernoid Tierra, Fusion Summoned by the Effect of Chain Material, will also be Destroyed at the End Phase. But that's fine, because the instant she was Summoned, I achieved my goal."
"Infernoid Tierra's Fusion Material are Infernoid Onuncu, Infernoid Lilith, and one or more Infernoid Monsters. Depending on the number of Material Types, Infernoid Tierra activates multiple Effects upon successful Fusion Summon."
"If three or more Types are used, Both Players Send three Cards from their respective Fusion Decks to the Graveyard. If five or more Types are used, Send three Cards from the Top of Deck of Both Players to the Graveyard. If eight or more Types are used, Both Players select up to three of their Banished Cards and return them to the Graveyard."
Hayato, who had already Selected and Sent three Cards from his Fusion Deck to the Graveyard, paused and gave a cold laugh, "And if ten or more Types are used, Both Players' Hands are Sent to the Graveyard!"
"Hey!" Hearing this, Kaiba couldn't help but glare at Hayato, but saw only Hayato spreading his hands with a helpless look, "Sorry, Kaiba, this is a necessary sacrifice."
"Hmph, you think I'll believe your nonsense?" With a cold snort, Kaiba, who was also affected by Hayato, Selected three Cards from his Fusion Deck and Sent them to the Graveyard. After Flipping three Cards from the Top of Deck, he Sent them to the Graveyard along with his remaining two Cards in Hand.
"Heh, truly a 'Pure Labrynth' Deck, isn't it?"
Listening to Kaiba's sarcastic remarks, Hayato also retorted, "Labrynth, as the name suggests, is a City. Isn't it quite reasonable for some other Fiend-Type Monsters to live in such a large City? My City is quite big, you know."
"It's a Hand Destruction Effect!? Damn it! I knew I shouldn't have kept those Cards earlier." His Cards in Hand were Sent to the Graveyard along with the three Cards flipped from the Top of Deck. Compared to Kaiba, Hiroya Misawa could still Recycle the two Monsters, Gozuki and Mezuki, which were Banished by the Effect of Different Dimension Arena before, back to the Graveyard.
But the one most affected by Infernoid Tierra's Effect was the Mysterious Person, who had just now started his Turn. He was holding six Cards in his Hand and hadn't even had time to make his plays, yet he was cleared out in one go by Infernoid Tierra's Effect, becoming empty handed.
Hayato attempted to see what Cards the Opponent Sent to the Graveyard to judge what Deck they were using, but seems like they were prepared. Among the Cards the Mysterious Person Sent to the Graveyard, only the top one, Card of Demise, was visible. Hayato couldn't see anything else.
However, knowing that the opponent's Card of Demise had been Sent to the Graveyard was also a good thing.
Thinking this, Hayato but saw the Mysterious Person suddenly say, "Banish this Card that was just now Sent to my Graveyard, and Activate its Effect."
'A Card that Activates by Banishing Itself from the Graveyard? Hmph, nothing to worry about.' Kaiba wasn't too concerned about what Card the Mysterious Person Activated, but he noticed that Hayato, who was beside him, was somewhat stunned when he saw the Card the Mysterious Person took out and revealed from the Graveyard.
Kaiba also looked at the Card the opponent Revealed, finding it was a Card he didn't recognize. At this moment, the Mysterious Person spoke again, "From my Deck, Set one Elixir of the Golden Lord Spell/Trap Card on my Field!"
The Card the Mysterious Person was holding in his Hand was named Golden Land Forever!. The Deck he was using was none other than—
"Holy crap, Gold!?"
Hayato couldn't have imagined that, on a whim, he decided to Duel with Labrynth, and ended up encountering a Golden Land Deck User. The two major Trap-Heavy Decks, Gold and Silver, actually came together. Who could have thought that such two exceptionally talented individuals would gather in this Small Egyptian City!
Compared to the Labrynth Deck Hayato used, which primarily focused on Normal Traps and had a style closer to a back-and-forth Beatdown, the Golden Land Deck, which favored various annoying Continuous Spells/Traps, focused on Suppression and not letting the opponent have fun. Especially Golden Land with Skill Drain and Imperial Order was even nicknamed a "Pendulum Deck."
Simply put, one liked Interruption and had strong Interactivity, while the other was more self-contained. If you had to say it had strong Interactivity, it was usually between the Duelists themselves.
What made Hayato slightly relieved was that because of Infernoid Tierra's Effect just now, all six Cards in the Mysterious Person's Hand were Sent to the Graveyard. He wouldn't be able to Set any annoying "Stickers" for a while. He couldn't possibly Send several Cards like Golden Land Forever!, which activate in the Graveyard, to the Graveyard in one go—
"Then, the Effects of Huaquero of the Golden Land, Conquistador of the Golden Land, Scarlet Sanguine Elixir of the Golden Land, and White Destiny Elixir of the Golden Land also Activate. By Banishing them from my Graveyard, I Set three Elixir of the Golden Lord and two Golden Land Spell/Trap Cards from my Deck in my Back Row."
As if to slap Hayato's face, besides Card of Demise which Hayato saw clearly, the other five Cards in the Mysterious Person's Graveyard were actually all Golden Land Archetype Cards, all having Effects that Activate by Banishing Themselves from the Graveyard.
Despite suffering Infernoid Tierra's Hand Destruction, in the blink of an eye, the Mysterious Person actually Searched and Set a total of five Cards in his Back Row!
"Setting so many Traps in one go, your play style is too Underworld!"
Hayato ranted, while Hiroya Misawa and Kaiba subconsciously glanced at Hayato's Spell/Trap Zone, coincidentally having the same idea in their hearts: 'You're the last person who has the qualification to say that about others!'
After Searching and Setting five Cards from his Deck, the Mysterious Person's operation wasn't over. Only to see him press the Activate Set Card button to activate a Card he had just Set: "Although Trap and Quick-Play Spell Cards require one Turn of preparation time after being Set before they can be Used, Normal Spell Cards can be Activated the Turn they are Set. I Activate the Magic Card Black Awakening Elixir of the Golden Land."
"From my Hand or Deck, Special Summon one Zombie-Type Monster in Defense Position. If I do not control an Eldlich Monster, I cannot Special Summon a Monster other than an Eldlich Monster with this Effect."
As he spoke, the Mysterious Person manually Searched the Core Card of the Golden Land Deck from his Deck, the only Monster in the Main Deck.
"Incarnation of blasphemy that disturbs the slumber of The Dead, merge the souls of the deceased from the Chaos World and descent upon this muddy world!"
"Eldlich the Golden Lord!"
A giant Alchemy Pot appeared in the Mysterious Person's Front Row. The potion within it churned, spitting out a black stone. This symbolized the first stage of Alchemy's four stages—Death. A Monster covered in golden yellow, adorned with jewelry like a nouveau riche, rose from the Alchemy Pot and landed on the Mysterious Person's Field.

"After Black Awakening Elixir of the Golden Land is Activated, until the End Phase, I cannot Special Summon Monsters that are not Zombie-Type." After explaining his Card's Restriction, the Mysterious Person, who spoke very little, didn't continue his plays. Instead, he put down his raised Duel Disk, "My turn ends."

"Hey, you're just ending your Turn like that? Damn it, you didn't even enter the Battle Phase!" The Mysterious Person's Turn ended, but Hiroya Misawa was quite dissatisfied with his teammate's performance, "And you said you were invincible throughout London, completely unreliable."
The speaker had no intention, but the listener took note. Hearing Hiroya Misawa say that this Mysterious Person was "invincible throughout London," Hayato inexplicably thought of someone.
However, this slightly silent Mysterious Person was nothing like the arrogant person in his impression. It must just be an illusion.
Infernoid Tierra Self-Destructed and was Sent to the Graveyard when the Mysterious Person Declared his End Turn. Thinking this, Hayato welcomed his own Turn. He placed his finger on the Top of Deck: "My Turn, Draw a Card!"
