Chapter 97
Chapter 97: Their Respective Battles!
May 15, 2024 Author: Samsung Charmander (Author Name)
Ariana's lovely brows furrowed. Why did Professor Oak's supposedly knowledgeable and incredibly strong grandson feel so... strange?
He was inexplicably punchable.
His words made her tremble with anger, and she wanted to strike him with a heavy fist.
"A Core Executive? A decent opponent, I suppose. But are you really going to so brazenly reveal that you're with Team Rocket?" Gary couldn't help but taunt.
Others at least have a Rainbow "R," but you've got a straight-up Team Rocket "R." How arrogant.
You're almost as cocky as me.
But Ariana suddenly smirked, regaining her imposing might that commanded the entire field. Even the air seemed to turn dangerous.
It was a known fact that each of Team Rocket's four Core Executives possessed a level of power comparable to a Region's Elite Four member.
Although three of them were somewhat inflated, with only one or two of their Pokémon having reached that level.
But in a 1v1, they could indeed fight on par with a powerful Elite Four member without being at a disadvantage.
A little brat who had just started out?
"Heh heh."
Ariana's gaze turned sinister and vicious. She relished crushing geniuses in the cradle.
She glanced at the Wartortle beside him. From a newcomer's perspective, it was indeed well-raised, but on a mature adult's battlefield, it was no different from child's play.
"Come out, Vileplume!"
Without delay, she sent out her ace.
A Pokémon whose lower body was dark blue with short limbs, looking rather cute. But on its head bloomed a giant, bright red flower with spotted petals and a large, cylindrical indentation at its center.
The more vibrant the petals, the more dangerous it is—that's a law of nature.
"Vileplume, the Flower Pokémon. Its flower bud can release potent poison gas and paralyzing gas. But that's it? How laughable, hehe."
Gary's Pokédex automatically reported.
Also possessing a peculiar personality, its tone was identical to its master's—incredibly arrogant.
Ariana: "?"
However, Gary's expression wasn't nearly as arrogant as his Pokédex's. It quickly grew solemn.
This Vileplume gave him a very powerful feeling.
At this thought, he decisively recalled his Wartortle and, in a reverse motion, threw out another Poké Ball.
A red light flashed, and a large, lion-like Pokémon appeared before him. Its entire body was covered in fiery red fur, with black stripes that gave it a somewhat fierce and powerful appearance.
Yellow mane sprouted wildly from its neck, head, limbs, and tail, dancing in the air. Its head resembled both a lion and a Qilin, making it exceptionally cool-looking.
The moment it appeared, the surrounding temperature seemed to rise slightly. As it threw its head back and roared, a blue light of weakening flickered over the opposing Vileplume.
Ability, Intimidate.
Arcanine!
It's said that over a decade ago, Arcanine was even worshipped by the people of the Kanto Region as a Legendary Pokémon.
Of course, its status could no longer compare to that of a Legendary Pokémon, but with its majestic appearance and powerful strength, it was a common partner for Officer Jenny.
Naturally, Gary wouldn't engage in a type disadvantage battle like Ash. If he was going to fight, he would, of course, choose the optimal strategy.
Not to mention, his opponent's strength was greater than his.
An underdog victory would be extremely difficult, but such battles were also intoxicating. A fierce battle intensity ignited in Gary's eyes, and he clenched his fists.
"Arcanine, use Snarl!"
Gary took the initiative at the start of the battle.
Starting with a shout wasn't a big deal.
"Awoooargh!!"
Arcanine threw its neck back and let out a shattering roar from behind its sharp fangs, making one's ears ring. The invisible sound waves actually formed a blurry, dark sonic boom ring that shot forward.
Ariana, however, was unhurried. She pointed a finger and commanded:
"Vileplume, use Grassy Terrain!"
"Plume!"
The round opening atop Vileplume's head acted like a cannon, suddenly firing a green light cluster. It then exploded into green energy that fell into every corner of the floor.
Instantly, the entire Phantom 41st Floor was covered by countless green lights, and small blades of grass even faintly sprouted from the ground.
Gary and Ariana faced off, neither backing down.
Silph Co. Building, 40th floor. A bewildered Blue suddenly appeared, a wooden sword in one hand.
She looked around. Ash and Gary had been teleported somewhere unknown, leaving her all alone.
The room wasn't very large, and she quickly noticed a figure in front of an office desk not far away.
He was a middle-aged man with a buzz cut, dressed in a crisp, clean orange Team Rocket uniform. His expression was gloomy, and he projected an air of anger without being visibly angry. Every movement carried the absolute aura of a superior.
Just a simple exchange of glances made Blue's heart tremble.
"Giovanni... Boss?!"
She was completely stunned, the words blurting out of her mouth.
Giovanni was an absolute powerhouse. She had seen him on TV before, and even through the screen, she could feel the intense presence of a top player.
Crap!
Don't tell me my random stab hit the jackpot and teleported me directly into the enemy's den?
*Sigh*, why can't I control my own hands!?
Seeing that Giovanni was looking at her with a rather curious expression, Blue took a deep breath to calm herself and slowly began to speak:
"Greetings, Boss. I am an employee from Production Line Number 3 of Rainbow Group's Futo Kang, and also a Bronze-level member of Team Rocket!"
*That's right,* she was still in the guise of a male corporate slave. She could totally pretend to be one of Team Rocket's own.
She could even say she was planning to capture Ash and the others secretly, which was why she was following them.
I can still turn this around!
However, this Giovanni suddenly spoke, his tone full of disdain.
"Your acting... I have but one word to evaluate it: mediocre."
He stood up from his chair, looked Blue up and down, and finally spoke as if showing off a prized collection, listing every detail.
"You're clearly one of our Team Rocket employees, yet your first reaction upon seeing me wasn't respect, but a panicked desire to hide. You're supposed to be a corporate slave hollowed out by work, yet your tone and expression are full of youthful vitality. Even your mannerisms are nothing like a 997 worker's, but more like an inexperienced little..."
Giovanni's gaze was like that of a predatory Liepard, extremely aggressive. Every word was logical, seeing through everything.
"...like a little girl? Am I right?"
Blue: "!?"
She hurriedly covered her chest.
Her voice had even changed, yet he saw through her with a single glance. Does this Giovanni have X-ray vision?
Or is it just his terrifying powers of observation?
Giovanni is this detail-oriented?!
At this thought, Blue dropped her disguise. The skin and clothes on her face and body began to twitch strangely, gradually melting into a writhing mass of pink sludge before popping off her body with a *plop*.
It was an adorable Ditto, its pink, jelly-like body bouncing on the ground with a *duang*.
And without the Ditto's disguise, Blue returned to her own adorable face.
Her usual clothes were revealed: the classic white Poké Ball sun hat, a small blue short-sleeved shirt, and a little red skirt—the look of a girl full of vitality.
"Completing a Disguise Transformation with a Ditto without wearing special materials? This technique must be the work of some master, I presume? However, this Ditto's skill is insufficient, and the person using the Transform ability lacks experience..."
Giovanni's eyes glinted with a sinister green light as he said:
"Little girl, tell me of your heritage. As far as I know, no one in the Kanto Region is capable of this."
The person behind this is likely a disguise master as well.
Seeing the greedy and curious look on Giovanni's face, Blue's gaze suddenly sharpened. She raised her wooden sword and pointed it straight at him.
"Hmph, you're not Giovanni either!"
Although Blue could see no flaws on the latter's face.
In fact, every inch of his skin carried Giovanni's powerfully intimidating aura, and his mannerisms perfectly replicated those of someone in high authority. He was clearly an old hand with an extremely high level of disguise skill.
But considering how knowledgeable he was about Disguise Transformation, it was easy to draw a conclusion.
And adding one more piece of not-so-crucial evidence... just yesterday, on a public television in the Silph Co. Building, she had happened to see a cordial broadcast of Giovanni representing Team Rocket on a visit to the Unova Region, having a friendly meeting with local rural enterprises. The answer was self-evident.
This was also a fake!
Hmph, in that case, she had nothing to be afraid of!
She gripped her wooden sword, eager for a fight, and imagined the person before her as a flea.
"Heh heh."
The "Giovanni" gave a sinister cold laugh. Immediately, his face and body began to tremble like slush, his appearance changing drastically. Finally, a similar mass of pink sludge shot out from him.
Another Ditto.
And without the Ditto's disguise, the man revealed his true face.
He was in his twenties but looked rather old, with a flashy purple hairstyle and a tuft of gaudy bangs curled upwards.
His eyes were droopy, giving him the look of a creepy schemer, and he had a small purple goatee on his chin.
"Allow me to introduce myself. I am Lambda, a Core Executive of Team Rocket, and also the world's greatest disguise master."
Lambda suddenly revealed a sinister smile.
While Blue's attention was drawn to his transformation, a strong gust of wind suddenly whipped in from the side, striking the back of her hand like a long whip made of air.
"Hiss..."
Blue cried out in pain and retracted her hand. The wooden sword slipped from her grasp and fell at Lambda's feet.
"Sss-bat!"
It was a purple, bat-like Pokémon that flew over and landed on Lambda's shoulder.
Its body consisted of a single purple head with a ferocious expression. It wasn't very large, but two pairs of wings grew from the sides of its head.
One pair of large, long wings grew on top, with sharp, claw-like hooks in the middle of the wings.
Another pair of wings, not as wide, grew below, serving to stabilize its body.
From a distance, it looked just like the letter "X."
This was the ace that Lambda hadn't had time to show off last time before Ash physically charged and overwhelmed him.
Crobat!
