Chapter 87
Chapter 87: This Servant Truly Cannot Do It!
2024-05-15 Author: Samsung Charmander (Author Name)
“Miss Sabrina, wait a moment! I still have my third general!”
Ash quickly cut in to interrupt Sabrina's rampage, once again tossing out his third Poké Ball.
“Mimi~~”
A pink Butterfree danced about the Battle Arena, its lovely wings shaking off translucent clusters of light, a truly beautiful sight.
“Butterfree?”
Sabrina spoke her first words, her voice somewhat cold. Her red-glowing eyes narrowed slightly, halting her psychic rampage.
A Pokémon with a special form was, at least, a little interesting.
Seeing the black hair behind her head fall back into place, Ash let out a huge sigh of relief and instructed Butterfree:
“This is your first battle. You can do it!”
“Mimi…”
Butterfree’s beautiful eyes furrowed. Its pink wings fluttered as it looked at Ash, then at the Abra before it, appearing somewhat flustered.
It’s normal to be nervous the first time.
An idea came to Ash’s mind, and he quickly threw out another Poké Ball.
“Pidgeo-Pidgeo!!”
A Pidgeotto with brilliant plumage spread its wings and took flight. It first circled Butterfree before landing in the nearby spectator stands, giving its companion a brilliant, soldier-like look.
The pink Butterfree immediately blushed. Seeing Pidgeotto behind it, looking as proud and imposing as a strutting rooster, a great surge of courage welled up in its heart. It began to squarely face the perpetually motionless Abra.
The battle began!
Ash made a sweeping gesture and ordered a surprise attack, “Preemptive Strike! Butterfree, use String Shot!”
“Mi?”
Butterfree turned its head like a Rowlet, giving him a bewildered look.
“Tch, you don’t know it? Then use Electro Web!” Ash commanded with another swipe.
“Mi?”
Same as before.
Ash frowned. Was there really a Bug Pokémon nowadays that didn't know String Shot and Electro Web?
Across the field, Abra and Sabrina didn’t seem to be in a hurry to attack, so Ash quickly pulled out his Pokédex, planning to cram information on the fly.
“Pokédex Beep. Sabrina's puppet. Silicone material, soft body. The USB 5.0 port at the bottom is compatible with all Pallet Town Pokédex USB plugs.”
The Pokédex automatically reported.
Sabrina: “?”
She felt offended.
Ash quickly apologized, an embarrassed look on his face as he aimed the infrared scanner at his own Butterfree.
“Mutated Butterfree. Pokémon of Trainer Ash. Moves: Tackle, Gust, Sleep Powder, Draining Kiss.”
The Pokédex reported once again.
The first three were familiar, but the fourth was something Ash had never even heard of. He figured it must be one of those fabled Fairy-type moves.
Whatever!
“Butterfree, use Gust!” Ash commanded.
Butterfree began to flap its wings, instantly stirring up a not-so-strong whirlwind that blew toward Abra.
The latter didn’t even move, taking the full brunt of the Gust. Not even a single hair on its body stirred. HP-0.
Ash: “.”
This Gust might as well be called a pitiful puff of wind. It was even weaker than a fan on its lowest setting on a summer day…
“Ash, that Butterfree isn’t a Flying Type! Hurry and switch moves!” Brock shouted a reminder from the sidelines.
Even for a mutated Pokémon, this Butterfree had only just evolved. Its Level wasn't high, and without the Flying Type, he should be thankful its Gust was even as strong as a fan on low.
Hearing this, Ash changed his strategy again, making a sweeping gesture.
“Butterfree, use Sleep Powder!”
“Mimi…”
Butterfree flew directly above Abra, its wings shaking down countless dark green light clusters that enveloped Abra’s body.
Abra fell into a deep sleep.
“NICE! Great job, Butterfree!”
Ash clapped his hands sharply, looking at the Pokémon on the field whose eyes went from a slit to… a slit.
“…”
He suddenly recalled the earlier Pokédex entry.
*Abra, sleeps 25 hours a day…*
The scene instantly became awkward again.
Ash rubbed his head and shouted:
“Doesn’t matter if it’s sleeping or not! Now’s your chance, Butterfree! Use your strongest move, Draining Kiss!”
“Mimi!”
Butterfree beat its wings and took flight, arriving right in front of Abra. A pink cluster of energy had already formed on its face, faintly exuding an intimidating might.
After suffering one blow after another, Butterfree was eager to prove itself. It was absolutely not just a pretty vase!
“Hmph, you’ve played around long enough. My turn, I suppose…”
Sabrina, who had been watching quietly all this time, suddenly flared with red light in her eyes. In the next moment, the Abra in front of her also began to glow with an eerie red light, completely shrouding its figure and forcing Butterfree to retreat half a meter to avoid it.
When the light faded, Abra's small, baby-like body had transformed into a large, fox-like Pokémon standing on two feet. It held a strange spoon in its right hand, with two long whiskers growing from its chin and a ferocious look in its eyes.
Kadabra!
“Evolution…?!”
The eyes of Ash and his friends were about to pop out of their sockets. Was this another Pokémon that had been holding back its Evolution?!
Or did she always keep an Abra ready to evolve on standby?
The Butterfree, which had been about to plant a kiss, also stopped abruptly, its Draining Kiss move stuck awkwardly in mid-air.
If it were a baby-like Abra, she could bring herself to do it.
But for it to suddenly turn into a creepy old man…
This servant truly cannot do it!
Especially not with the sharp-eyed Pidgeotto watching her from behind!
In the end, the pink Butterfree could only turn to look at Ash with a wronged expression, indicating that its Draining Kiss had been sealed.
Ash: “.”
Seeing this, Sabrina spoke in a cold and rather unpleasant tone, clearly having reached her limit.
“Such childish battling. Kadabra, use Confusion!”
“Kada!”
Kadabra abruptly raised its spoon. Powerful telekinesis instantly erupted from its body, fixing Butterfree in mid-air.
“Mimi!!”
Butterfree’s body struggled ceaselessly in mid-air. The Psychic-type move wasn't that effective against it, and although its Level wasn’t high, the opposing Kadabra’s wasn’t high either. Bronze-tier matches are nothing but a pecking contest between novices.
“Hmph!”
Seeing the stalemate, Sabrina snorted coldly. An invisible blue ripple spread out from her as the source, causing the entire training ground to tremble before it all converged within Kadabra.
“Bzzzzzz!!”
The blue telekinesis became so powerful it materialized, vibrating constantly in mid-air.
The Confusion move instantly intensified to the strength of Psychic. The overwhelming Psychic-type attack dealt immense damage to Butterfree while it was still in the air. It could only fall miserably to the ground, clearly Unable to Battle.
“Hacking!?”
Ash blurted out.
A trainer on the sidelines could provide their Pokémon with strength?
“Hmph!”
As the exaggerated Psychic faded, Sabrina’s red-glowing eyes swept over Ash’s group.
“Hee hee, since you lost, you have to stay and play with me.”
The puppet in her hand let out a blood-curdling laugh, causing a shiver to run down everyone's spines and making them unconsciously take a half-step back.
“First up is this one…”
Sabrina’s icy gaze fell upon the Butterfree closest to her. Red light once again flared in her cold eyes, and a bizarre energy beam shot out.
“Butterfree!!”
Ash cried out in alarm. Just as he was about to pull out his Poké Ball to recall it, a black shadow suddenly shot out from in front of him, as fast as lightning!
“Pidgeo-Pidgeo!! (My partner must not be harmed!!)”
Pidgeotto shot forward, instantly flying in front of Butterfree. It grabbed the latter with its talons and was about to escape the scene.
“Swoosh!”
Unexpectedly, Sabrina’s energy beam was faster, higher, and stronger. It missed Butterfree and instead completely enveloped Pidgeotto.
“Poof!”
The next second, purple smoke rose. Pidgeotto’s majestic form vanished, replaced by a Pidgeotto doll only half a meter tall, its eyes lifeless as if it had lost its life force.
“Pidgeotto!?”
Everyone was shocked. Psychic powers could turn others into dolls?
Was this what "staying behind" meant?
Ash couldn’t help but shiver, a new hint of fear in his eyes as he looked at Sabrina.
“What do we do…?”
“MIMI!!”
A powerful, high-pitched cry suddenly rang out.
Before Sabrina could make another move, the Butterfree that was supposedly Unable to Battle abruptly beat its wings and rose. Its two pink wings stretched out incredibly wide, and its pair of pink eyes turned so red they almost looked bloodshot.
It was seen panting heavily, its gaze shifting from the Pidgeotto doll to the impassive Sabrina. The pink energy around its body was condensing at a frantic pace.
“This is…?”
Ash and his friends stared, dumbfounded, completely clueless as to what was happening.
“MI!!”
Butterfree cried out again. The pink energy violently erupted from its body, forming a gigantic pink energy bomb in mid-air. Fairy energy shrouded the entire arena!
“BOOM!!”
The next second, the pink energy bomb shot straight toward Sabrina, its imposing might reaching its peak!!
Moonblast!!
