Chapter 60

Chapter 60: Intense Battle at the Power Plant!

2024-05-15 Author: Samsung Charmander

Power Plant.

This place was once a bustling hub, generating enough electricity in a single day to power the neighboring Cerulean City for an entire week.

Over a decade ago, it was abandoned by humans for unknown reasons.

Even Misty, a local resident of Cerulean City, was unsure of the details. Ever since she was a child, she had rarely heard anything about this power station.

Gradually, fewer and fewer humans came to the area.

However, without the constant coming and going of humans, this place became a natural habitat for Wild Pokémon, especially for a large number of Electric-type Pokémon.

The trio of Ash, Misty, and Brock arrived before the Power Plant. From the outside, it looked like a giant, white, cocoon-like building, but its walls were covered with countless green vines and weeds, clear evidence that it had been desolate for a long time.

"Huh? What's that Pokémon?"

While still on a small patch of grassland outside the Power Plant's entrance, the three of them spotted a pink, plump Pokémon.

It had a somewhat dazed expression, but its most striking feature was the long, wide, pink tongue extending from its mouth.

"Pokedex Beep. Lickitung, the Licking Pokémon. Its flexible tongue can perform all sorts of difficult maneuvers. It was selected for this year's top ten most popular Pokémon list (for female audiences)."

The Pokedex automatically reported.

"Popular Pokémon?"

Misty, the girl of the group, scratched her head in confusion.

It looked dazed, and its tongue was wet and sticky. It was kind of gross. Would any woman really like that?

Just as she and Ash were about to treat it as nothing, Brock's eyes snapped open, shining with a brilliant light.

Ash asked in confusion, "Teacher Brock, are you going to catch that Lickitung? It doesn't look like a particularly likable Pokémon."

"Hmph, you two don't understand. The organ with the highest muscle activity in the human body is the tongue. This is a magnificent phenomenon."

Brock stuck out his own tongue, which fluidly shifted into at least thirty different shapes in under three seconds, leaving Ash completely dazzled.

Brock then shouted in admiration, "This is a Pokémon with a Rock-Solid Will!"

With that, he released the eyeless Pokémon he had serendipitously found in Mt. Moon.

"Go, Zubat, use Supersonic!"

"Wuwuwu~"

Zubat let out an eerie cry, and invisible sound waves formed circles of strange ripples, completely enveloping the Lickitung that was still eating grass.

Before long, the Lickitung began to sway and stagger.

"Wuh!"

Hostility rising in the Lickitung, it suddenly shot its tongue out, attempting to hit Zubat with a Power Whip.

Unexpectedly, the pink tongue abruptly changed direction in mid-air and, with a *smack*, struck its own smooth head.

It had entered a state of Confusion and attacked itself.

Seeing this, the Lickitung tried to flee into the nearby bushes, but Brock's eyes snapped open again, revealing an expression worthy of a villain.

"Use Mean Look!"

In front of the eyeless Zubat, the floating afterimage of a large eyeball suddenly appeared.

*Swish!*

A strange light enveloped the Lickitung, forcing it to stiffly turn its head back.

It could not escape!

Brock once again gestured with a grand sweep of his finger. "Now, use Toxic!"

Zubat shot forward with a *swoosh*. Its agile, small figure easily dodged the incoming tongue attack, and its two fangs bit down on Lickitung's shoulder.

*Plop!*

Purple bubbles, a sign of the Poisoned Status, began to appear on Lickitung's body.

"Wuh!"

Lickitung launched another Power Whip, successfully knocking itself out and rendering it Unable to Battle.

"Perfect chance, Poké Ball!"

Brock threw a Poké Ball. The Lickitung was captured with almost no resistance, and the ball stopped shaking after just a few seconds.

He extended his steel-like arm, letting Zubat perch on it. His expression was self-satisfied, and his teeth seemed even whiter against his dark skin.

*Clap, clap, clap!*

Misty, who had been watching, couldn't help but applaud.

That smooth, fluid series of moves from Teacher Brock was something a certain someone could spend a lifetime learning.

But his methods were truly dirty. As expected, it wasn't just his skin that was dark...

With that little interlude over, the trio formally stepped into the Power Plant.

Pushing open the main doors, they were greeted by a vast, open plaza that stretched as far as the eye could see, not the narrow warehouse they had initially imagined.

All around them were various pieces of mechanical equipment whose principles they couldn't understand. However, most had become anchor points for weeds and vines, showing no signs of operation.

Noticing the approach of unfamiliar humans, several dark figures suddenly darted out from behind the machines, eyeing the group with unfriendly expressions.

"Pokedex Beep. Magnemite, the Magnet Pokémon. It has a screw on the top of its head. It was selected for this year's top ten most popular Pokémon list (for female audiences)."

"Pokedex Beep. Voltorb, the Ball Pokémon. It is said to have been formed from abandoned, low-quality Poké Balls. It has a gentle and peaceful nature, making it very safe."

The Pokedex automatically reported.

Three Magnemite were on the left, and three Voltorb were on the right. Their stance was clearly not a welcoming one.

"Aaargh!!"

And that wasn't all. A piercing roar echoed through the air.

Following the sound, a yellow Pokémon half the height of a person leaped out. Its yellow skin was marked with black lightning bolt symbols. It brandished large fists, and an antenna-like organ grew from its head, crackling with a powerful electric current.

"Pokedex Beep. Electabuzz, the Electric Pokémon. It has powerful electricity and a violent temper, but attacking it with an Electric-type Move can lead to unexpected rewards."

The Pokedex reported.

"Looks like he's their boss, huh?"

At the sight, Ash's Battle Intensity flared. He desperately needed a frantic battle right now to vent his grief over his close friend's death.

"I choose you, Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle!"

He threw three Poké Balls at once, and the trio, bound by the Longevity Bond, appeared together.

After years of traveling, he had come to understand that, while it might not be legal... when it was time for a group fight, only a hot-headed idiot would insist on a 1v1.

"Squirtle?"

Facing the faint rumbling of Thunder and Lightning all around, one of the Squirtle subconsciously scratched its head. This was making its head spin.

"Oh, oh, my hand was too fast. Come back for now, Squirtle."

Ash hurriedly recalled the Squirtle.

The Squirtle inside the red light: "?"

Seriously, what the hell?

The battle began. The Electabuzz, clearly the boss, waved a hand, and one of the Magnemite fired a bolt of lightning straight at them.

"Charmander, use Flamethrower!"

*FWOOSH!!*

A Pillar of Fire erupted instantly. The moment it made contact, it pushed back the lightning completely and exploded on the Magnemite without any resistance.

Super Effective!

"Aaargh!!"

Seeing this, the Electabuzz's hands danced. The remaining five underlings attacked simultaneously. Yellow and blue lightning burst forth, intertwining as they rushed toward the dragon and the turtle.

Ash's eyes lit up. "Excellent! Charmander, use Fire Spin!"

Charmander understood. The Pillar of Fire spewing from its mouth spun back and forth in the air, finally transforming into a spiraling Pillar of Fire that completely engulfed the onrushing lightning.

*WHOOSH WHOOSH WHOOSH!!*

As Charmander lifted its head, the Fire Spin moved with it, even pulling the combined lightning in another direction, ultimately slamming it all into a nearby machine.

The lightning burst apart, all the moves having missed their mark.

"Aow!"

Charmander then arrogantly flicked its neck, spitting a few sparks of flame from its mouth.

*They're all just Small Fry!*

*How come I feel like I'm getting more and more awesome lately?!*

*Yeah, if I'm this awesome, what do I even need a Trainer for?!*

Flames flickered between Charmander's teeth, its expression growing more savage. It faintly felt the urge to turn around and hit Ash with a Flamethrower...

Charmander's dominance intimidated the Magnemite and Voltorb, and they retreated slightly.

But daunted by the authority of the Electabuzz Boss behind them, they were forced to take a few steps forward again.

Noticing that his opponents had lost their Battle Intent, Ash didn't plan on taking their HP and immediately changed his strategy.

*A perfect time to try this move!*

"Bulbasaur, use Toad Paralysis Technique!" he commanded loudly.

Bulbasaur understood immediately. It took a deep breath of pure air, and its chin and belly suddenly swelled up, creating a somewhat frightening sight.

The next second, a large cloud of yellowish powder spewed from the Garlic Head on its back.

*WHOOSH WHOOSH WHOOSH!!*

Using its powerful lung capacity, Bulbasaur instantly expelled all its stored-up power, blowing the surrounding Stun Spore outwards.

It was incredibly fast, enveloping the few Fodder Pokémon in an instant.

There was no escape!

"Paralysis..."

Instantly, the Magnemite and Voltorb lost their ability to move, falling to the ground, immobilized.

This was an era where Electric-type Pokémon could still be paralyzed.

"Aaargh...?"

Seeing its underlings lose their ability to battle in just a few exchanges, the Electabuzz could finally take it no longer. It leaped forward with large strides, bypassing the dragon and the turtle, and beckoned at Ash with its finger.

To be precise, it was beckoning at the Pikachu on his shoulder.

While the competitiveness among Electric Types wasn't as extreme as with Fire Types, Electabuzz was definitely an exception.

It especially hated decorative Electric Mouse Pokémon that fawned over humans. The very sight of one made it want to stomp it to death.

Seeing this, Pikachu could no longer stand it. Did it really think it was just a freeloader who did nothing but eat?

"Pika!"

It also leaped past the dragon and the turtle, its cheeks crackling with an Electric Current.

This one's Battle Intent was on a completely different level from those Fodder Pokémon. Ash swallowed hard and asked inwardly, "Hey Brother Red, is this the 'decent' one you were talking about?"

"Compared to a decent one, this is just a chump."

Red replied casually.

Ash: "..."

What the heck is a chump?

But whatever, let's go!

Ash took a deep breath and focused his gaze on the Electabuzz before him.

He suddenly recalled the Pokedex's earlier tip.

"Attacking it with an electric move will have unexpected rewards?"

With this in mind, he no longer hesitated and instructed Pikachu, "Pikachu, use Thunderbolt!"

*If Thunder Shock gives a reward, then if I use Thunderbolt, won't I get an explosive reward!?*

*I've got this in the bag!*

Pikachu slapped its cheeks, and an Electric Current burst forth instantly.

"Pika, CHU!!"

The yellow lightning shot out like an Electric Snake. But beneath the electric glow, the Electabuzz revealed a smirk, making no move to dodge.

*BZZZT-BOOM!!*

The Thunderbolt was a direct hit, but it transformed into a powerful yellow energy that surged into its body.

The next second, Electabuzz's two arms began to spin like motors.

*BZZZT!!*

The current on its head-antennas pulsed, and its body was covered in a strange yellow energy, making its whole physique seem much lighter.

"Ash, that's the Ability Motor Drive! When it's hit by an Electric-type Move, its Speed will increase!" Brock hurriedly warned.

*Strange, according to the data, Electabuzz's Ability isn't Motor Drive.*

"Could it be that the surrounding power equipment is creating a special effect similar to an Electric Amplifier, which in turn changed the Electabuzz's Ability?" Brock theorized.

Electabuzz evolves using an item, the Electric Amplifier, and after evolution, its Ability changes from Static to Motor Drive.

And since the power equipment here is old and dilapidated, it only changed its Ability. But the conditions weren't sufficient to make it evolve?

Teacher Brock's wise gaze swept over the surroundings, and he quickly arrived at a complete hypothesis.

Ash: "..."

Hey, forget all that nonsense, *this* is the unexpected reward?

Why did I believe the Pokedex?!

Wait a minute, it's not like the Pokedex was wrong, was it?
