Chapter 435 Aether Foundation
2024-05-15 Author: Samsung Charmander (Author Name)
The middle-aged man had a small, thin build and an indescribable shade of short, yellow-green hair. He wore a pair of large, transparent yellow-green glasses, giving him a somewhat creepy and sinister appearance. His disposition was rather similar to Lambda, one of Team Rocket's core executives.
On the television was a live broadcast of the current Indigo League Conference.
"It's my favorite time of the week, The Royal Mask's newbie-crushing segment! Ahaha!!"
Faba stared at the television, laughing maniacally to himself while waving a pair of cheering sticks.
He had been a fan of The Royal Mask for ten years and was the admin of his fan club's group chat. Even the underwear he wore was official Masked Man merchandise. Faba even believed the latter was currently the strongest trainer in the Alola Region, far more powerful than any of the Island Kahunas.
If his work wasn't so demanding right now, he would have already taken a plane to cheer for him in person.
So, even from thousands of miles away, across countless oceans and lands, watching the Indigo League Conference broadcast every few days to see the Masked Man crush some small fry was his greatest pleasure outside of his busy work.
"Oh? So this time his opponent in the Top Four is named Red, huh? What a domineering name... but his aura seems so unremarkable. He must be another small fry."
But as he kept watching, Faba's expression gradually changed.
"Huh, why does that Poké Ball look a little familiar?"
"For Rowlet's sake, isn't that an Ultra Beast?!"
Faba, who had been watching with amusement, felt his expression fall. He hurriedly pulled up his pants and strode toward his superior's room.
After passing through several long corridors and a few high-tech base rooms, he finally arrived at the President's room. In his haste, Faba even pushed the door open directly.
Inside the room sat two women. One was a woman with long, reddish-brown hair tied up on her head, wearing a pair of large, yellow-framed glasses. She was not young, but she had a baby face that gave her a deceptively youthful appearance with an impressive figure.
The other woman was sitting in an office chair. A cascade of long, golden hair fell down her back. Her face was beautiful, her expression elegant and noble, giving off the impression of an intelligent and capable career woman.
"Hey! Faba! Don't you know how to knock?!"
Seeing Faba barge in so rudely, Wicke didn't hold back and scolded him directly.
Both Wicke and Faba were branch managers of the Aether Foundation, the very "branch managers" Meowth often spoke of—"Get promoted to executive, become a branch manager, it feels great-meow~"—their status second only to the President.
The two had long been at odds, so Faba didn't give her a pleasant look either, just a cold glance.
"Hmph, woman!"
But the words had barely left his mouth when a calm voice came from the side, a voice that carried the simmering anger of a volcano on the verge of eruption.
"Oh, Faba. I'll give you one more chance. Say that again."
Hearing this, Faba shuddered. He might dare to provoke Wicke, who held the same rank, but he would never dare show any disrespect to this woman. He quickly nodded and apologized.
Lusamine, President of the Aether Foundation.
In the Kanto Region, this would be the equivalent of Team Rocket's leader, Giovanni.
"Heh heh, President... no, this is big!!"
Faba hurriedly averted his gaze, because this matter was indeed quite serious.
He then took it upon himself to operate the large computer in front of Lusamine, skillfully opening the satellite TV and tuning it to the Kanto channel. The screen soon showed the live broadcast of the Top Four match.
"The Royal Mask?"
The two women tilted their heads. This Masked Man was a well-known master in their Alola Region, and very popular; they naturally recognized him. They had been wondering why there hadn't been any news about him recently. So, he had gone to another region to train.
But neither of them was particularly interested in a muscle-bound man. What was so interesting about this?
"Hey Faba, we're not die-hard fans like you!"
Wicke didn't miss any opportunity to attack her colleague, but just as she finished her sentence, both her and Lusamine's eyes widened in unison.
On the screen, the fiery red insectoid shell, the burly, muscular body, the appearance of a muscular mosquito...
"UB-02?!"
The two blurted out, their voices filled with shock.
One of the Aether Foundation's current major projects was investigating the legendary Ultra Beasts. But they were, after all, creatures from another world, and whether they even existed was a question mark, so progress had been slow for years.
But in recent years, they had successfully used spatial dimensions to detect that there were indeed some peculiar creatures existing in Ultra Space. Their habits, appearances, and other aspects were completely different from the Pokémon of their own world.
They were monstrous beings.
And yet, they had only just detected it, having completed the full simulated image just last week, and now someone had already brought one from another world into theirs.
Could Ultra Beasts really enter their world?
And could they be caught?
Faba quickly adjusted the camera, giving a close-up of the Poké Ball in Red's hand.
"President, this guy's Poké Ball is also somewhat similar to the one we designed specifically to capture Ultra Beasts..."
Both were blue and purple net-like Poké Balls, except Red's had four additional golden-rimmed protrusions. Still, it could basically be considered the same design style.
But the problem was, their Beast Ball was currently just a conceptual sample, unable to even catch a normal Pokémon. And now someone else was already using one?!
"This one is very similar to the second Ultra Beast we detected. There's a more than 95% probability that it's the same type of creature," Wicke said, breathing heavily.
They had only detected a few Ultra Beasts so far. Buzzwole was the second one discovered, and it didn't even have a name yet, only a codename.
UB-02: Expansion.
"So it's called Buzzwole? That name is quite fitting."
At that moment, Lusamine heard the announcer's voice and nodded subconsciously.
What had been a slow-moving project had now been brought to its final stage by a random person from another region...
They had run tests before; these Ultra Beasts were exclusive to the Alola Region. Ultra Space shouldn't be able to connect to other regions.
The myriad mysteries left the three of them with minds full of question marks.
Thinking of this, Lusamine waved her hand, displaying the aura of a person in power as she issued a command.
"Faba, go to the Kanto Region immediately. Inquire with this trainer for any information related to the Ultra Beast."
"Wicke, elevate the Ultra Beast project to the foundation's top priority. Strive to bring back an Ultra Beast and capture it with a Beast Ball within three years!"
"Yes!" "Yes!"
At such a critical moment, the two didn't argue, cooperating with surprising harmony. They then rushed out the door to attend to their respective tasks.
In an instant, the vast room was left with only Lusamine, sitting alone in her original spot, her pupils gradually losing focus as she stared at the Buzzwole on the screen.
"Ultra Beasts really exist... and so do Ultra Wormholes..."
she muttered under her breath.
But in the next second, Lusamine's beautiful face twisted with a vicious and ruthless look, and even the air grew heavy and chilling.
"I will definitely find you..."
