Chapter 362

Chapter 358: Blue: Haha, I Got a Sweep Three Too!

My Thunder Bomb was all about using a greater mass to strike a smaller one, relying on the immense acceleration from Gravity and the hardness of the floor to inflict double damage.

Don't be fooled by how the last My Thunder Bomb seemed to do nothing. Golbat wasn't nearly as tough as Ash, and Kingler's power was far greater than that of a mere mortal like Bruno. The move's power had skyrocketed by who knows how many levels.

"BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!!"

Rubble and water exploded upwards, and amidst the chaos, Golbat's tragic cry could faintly be heard.

When the smoke cleared, Golbat was already floating on the surface of the water, its body covered in dark bruises and wounds. It had completely lost its ability to battle. Debris and wreckage floated on the water around it, a truly miserable sight.

"Koke-koke!"

Meanwhile, Kingler leaped out of the water and landed on another floating platform. It raised its two massive pincers, brandishing them victoriously toward the audience, looking incredibly imposing.

"Contestant Guangwu's three Pokémon have all lost their ability to battle! The winner of this battle is Contestant Ash and his Kingler!"

As the Referee's verdict was announced, Guangwu's avatar on the electronic display board above turned gray and was pushed off the screen. Only Ash's avatar remained, surrounded by a special effect of celebratory fireworks.

"Contestant Ash advances to the next round!"

The battle was over, and a commotion erupted from the audience stands, the noise considerable.

"Whoa, was that another three-person sweep?"

"That Kingler is amazing!"

"And it even used Master Bruno's signature move!"

"I heard Master Bruno took on a new disciple recently. It couldn't be this guy, could it?"

The surrounding spectators erupted in loud cheers. Undoubtedly, Kingler's ferocious and intense fighting style had won it a lot of seafood fans today, and many people made a mental note of the name: Ash from Pallet Town.

"Hahaha, Kingler!!"

With the battle over, Ash, who had been on high alert the entire time, could finally breathe a sigh of relief. An immense joy swelled in his heart, and he couldn't help but leap directly onto the floating platforms of the water-type arena. With a few quick, light-footed jumps, he landed on the platform where Kingler stood, his heels not even touching a single splash of water.

"You did great!"

Ash excitedly hugged Kingler's red-shelled head. Embracing it like this felt a little strange to him.

Before, as a Krabby, it only came up to his waist. But now, Kingler was bigger than him. He couldn't even wrap his arms all the way around it, which took some getting used to.

"Koke-kokeke~~"

Kingler's eyes curved into crescents as it happily raised one of its large pincers and gently tapped Ash on the head.

To score a three-person sweep in its debut on Ash's team... while one couldn't say it would never be surpassed, it was certainly unprecedented.

It could now retire with honors to Professor Oak's Corral!

"Hmph! Just lucky!"

On the other side, Guangwu recalled his Golbat, his face livid as he watched the boy and the crab embrace on the water-type arena. All the eyes of the crowd and the focus of the cameras were on them, which made Guangwu, who loved the spotlight, feel like he was about to explode.

But in the end, all he could do was wave his hand dismissively and turn to walk away.

No one cares about the loser, especially a loser who was swept three-to-zero.

"This kind of crude battle... I should just go back to the Hoenn Region and participate in a Pokémon Contest."

Guangwu plotted to himself. This time, he would strive to achieve the amazing result of reaching the Top 16!

That's right, tonight he was going to have a big seafood feast. He'd eat steamed crab!

"Ash, not bad. A victory right out of the gate."

"You've got a bright future ahead of you!"

After the match, Brock and Misty, who had been sitting in the friends and family section, came forward to congratulate him cheerfully. Being able to score a three-person sweep right at the start was partly because that Guangwu fellow was pretty weak, but it also showed that Ash's current strength was nothing to scoff at.

"Contestant Ash from Pallet Town, we're from the Official Television Station. Could we have an interview with you?"

A few reporters gathered around. Any contestant capable of a three-person sweep definitely possessed considerable strength and was a person of interest to watch in this tournament.

Without a second thought, Ash agreed. He stood right in front of the camera, waving repeatedly with a joyful expression.

"Oh, so from what I understand, a total of three trainers from Pallet Town are participating this time, and all three have achieved the astounding battle record of a three-person sweep. Is the feng shui in Pallet Town just better? Are all the trainers there at such a high level?"

Ash frowned. Of all the things to ask, why was this reporter bringing up feudal superstitions?

Still, from the reporter's words, it seemed that girl Blue really did get a sweep too, huh?

"Haha, I'm Ash from Pallet Town, the future Pokémon Master! I'm definitely going to win the champion title in this tournament!"

He didn't say much more, simply making his bold declaration. A fiery aura erupted from him, stunning the people around him.

So...

Pokémon Master, what's that?

The reporters mentally noted down the term, planning to look it up later.

After one wave of the interview, seeing more reporters trying to butt in, the quick-thinking Brock and Misty swiftly pulled Ash out of the crowd and headed towards the Trainer Hub.

They knew he had another battle tomorrow. A little celebration was fine, but it would be better to spend the extra time planning a strategy or getting some strategic rest to prepare for the next day's battle.

As Ash's strongest support crew at the moment, he had to do the battling himself, but they needed to manage his time outside the arena for these few days!

"If Ash wins the champion trophy, I should get at least half of it!"

Brock and Misty thought to themselves. Unwittingly, they had already divided up the entire trophy...

Soon, the three of them returned to the Pokémon Center.

The battles outside were still proceeding in full swing, which meant the flow of people in the main lobby had thinned out considerably. There was hardly anyone in sight.

"Nurse Joy, if you please."

Ash placed Kingler's Poké Ball on a metal plate that looked like a meal tray. He had heard that the Nurse Joy here also provided a special service.

A massage for Pokémon to restore their energy. At this, Pikachu's ears twitched, and it slyly hopped onto the meal tray as well.

"Pika~"

Although it hadn't battled, watching three battles from the sidelines had also consumed a lot of energy. It was only right and proper to freeload a massage.

"Please come back for your Pokémon in half an hour~"

Nurse Joy smiled and pushed the cart, which resembled a meal service trolley, into the inner room to begin the energy recovery.

Meanwhile, Ash scanned the Pokémon Center, planning to find a place to rest for a bit and restore his focus.

He walked a few steps to an armchair and, without thinking, turned around and plopped down. He then leaned back, throwing his head back, intending to just fall into the chair.

"CLANG!!"

A loud bang echoed as if he had hit solid steel, followed by a sharp pain in the back of his head. This made Ash immediately jump back up, clutching his head and crouching on the ground, whimpering.

"Hiss... that hurts!!"

It had been a long time since Ash had experienced such pain. He hadn't felt a thing even after taking a full-power My Thunder Bomb from Bruno last time.

The last time it hurt this much was probably back in Vermilion City, when he'd hit that girl Blue's steel-like head!

He squinted at the armchair, cursing under his breath about who would leave a block of steel here to ambush people!

The commotion also attracted the attention of Brock and Misty, who hurried over.

"What's wrong?"

It turned out the rest chairs here were just as anti-human in design as the ones in Vermilion City, arranged back-to-back in pairs. And right now, on the other side of Ash's seat, there was another head.

It was a person's head wearing a white sun hat. It seemed incredibly hard, enough to make Ash's head ache from the impact, yet its owner showed no reaction at all, remaining perfectly still as if they'd just been bitten by a mosquito.

"This hat looks a little familiar..."

The three of them walked around to the back of the chair and saw that under the sun hat was a girl with long brown hair. Her expression was calm and leisurely. Her body was slumped against the chair as if she were made of sludge, and her eyes were vacant and hollow.

"Blue?!"

This sludge-like girl was none other than Ash's eternal good friend.

"Hehe... haha, if it isn't my fellow townie?"

Only then did Blue notice them, but she didn't get up, remaining limply leaned against the chair.

Ash, not suspecting a thing, immediately patted her head with a smile in his eyes.

"I already heard! You also started with a three-person sweep today, and even broke the record for the fastest time in the Pokémon League Tournament! You didn't bring shame to Pallet Town!"

Hearing this, Blue couldn't help but burst out laughing and blurted out:

"Ahh, everyone got a sweep? I was on the receiving end of one today, hahahaha."

"Haha, that's right, this year we'll show the world how strong Pallet Town is... What did you say?"

Ash suddenly processed her words. His expression changed in an instant, and he stared at Blue, completely dumbfounded.

Wait.

The keywords he had heard all along the way were "Pallet Town," "Moltres's Trainer," "a sweep," and "shortest time."

But being on the receiving end of a sweep...

...all those keywords still made sense?!
