Chapter 347: Opening Ceremony!
2024-05-15 Author: Samsung Charmander (Author Name)
Afternoon.
At the Indigo League Main Stadium, the nearly 5,000 audience seats were completely full. The rising and falling discussions and cheers were a deafening clamor, making it seem as if the entire stadium was trembling slightly.
It was time for the Indigo League Conference's opening ceremony.
As a participant, Ash was backstage preparing for his appearance, while Brock and Misty sat in the audience stand, observing in secret.
Todd Snap, being a somewhat accomplished photographer, had joined the official photography team and was below, snapping pictures wildly.
"Dun dun dun dun... dun!"
Suddenly, an exciting, high-spirited BGM resounded through the venue, causing the spectators, who had been minding their own business, to jolt and turn their gazes downward.
It was about to begin!
From an entrance below the arena, four figures of varying heights had begun to walk out slowly.
Once the lights fully illuminated the faces of these four individuals, the entire audience stand was instantly plunged into a profound silence.
"..."
It was as if everyone was holding their breath, just silently watching the four people below.
Four people had stunned a crowd of 5,000.
"BOOM!!"
What followed was an explosive roar of cheers, continuous and unceasing. The voices of thousands converged, thundering like a rolling explosion, threatening to overturn the entire League stadium.
"Wooooo!!"
"Whoa... Did all four of the Kanto Region's Elite Four come this year?"
"These are four truly big shots. This is the first time I've ever seen them on the same stage..."
"Lance is still so handsome."
The four of them lined up in the center of the arena, striking a pose.
From left to right, the first was a woman with long, burgundy hair, dressed in a professional uniform. Her figure was tall and curvaceous, and her charming face wore a smile. She wore a pair of gold-rimmed glasses, exuding an elegant and intellectual charm, yet a faint, icy chill seemed to linger around her.
The Ice-type Elite Four member—Lorelei!
"Haha, it's my idol, Master Lorelei! Did you see that, Brock? Open your eyes wide and look!"
In the spectator seats, Misty jumped to her feet in excitement.
Seeing her idol since childhood, she excitedly patted Brock's shoulder.
The second was a brawny, bare-chested man, with the lower half of his body clad in simple white training pants. He was tall, like a small giant among the four, his eyes half-squinted and incredibly profound.
The Fighting-type Elite Four member—Bruno!
"Haha, it's my master! Teacher Bruno! Did you see that, Misty!?"
This time, it was Brock's turn to excitedly pat Misty's shoulder.
The third, however, appeared somewhat unconventional. She was a short, hunched-over old woman with a full head of white hair and a gloomy expression. She leaned on a cane with both hands and looked so frail that she could collapse at any moment.
But anyone with a discerning eye knew that out of the four, this was the one you should never provoke.
The Ghost-type Elite Four member—Agatha.
And the fourth was the true superstar of the Kanto Region.
He had a head of fiery-red, energetic short hair, a perfectly proportioned body, and was draped in a rather cool, chuunibyou-esque black cloak. His handsome face was sharply defined, with sword-like brows and star-like eyes, radiating an imposing air without needing to be angry. Just by standing there, he possessed a natural kingly aura.
The Dragon-type Elite Four member—Lance!
For all four of Kanto's Elite Four to gather before the public at the same time was an incredibly rare, major event.
"I'm so here for Sister Lorelei!"
"I'm even more here for little brother Bruno~"
"Speaking of which, I'm not from around here. You guys don't have a Champion? Are you really this excited over just four Elite Four members?"
The stadium announcer introduced them as the Kanto Elite Four, not counting Lance as the Champion, which confused many people from other regions.
"That's where you're mistaken. Lance is only an Elite Four member in the Kanto Region. In the Johto Region, he is the true Champion."
Lance was actually a Trainer born in the Johto Region.
He held multiple positions. On one hand, this was partly due to the scarcity of talent in the Johto Region—they had even transferred Koga, a ninja from his hometown, to be an Elite Four member there. In the past few days, the Johto League had even sent a letter to Bruno, hoping he would concurrently serve as their Fighting-type Elite Four member.
Even the two remaining Elite Four members there were only recently appointed newcomers.
But on the other hand, it also demonstrated one thing.
Lance was, indeed, strong.
The reason the Kanto Region had always had only four Elite Four members and no Champion was because no one had ever been able to defeat Lance to become the new Champion.
In other words, he was the gatekeeper to the Champion title, his immense strength preventing anyone from scoring a goal.
If it were Alder from the Unova Region guarding the gate, the Kanto Region might have had seven or eight Champions by now...
After striking a pose, the four walked slowly to a VIP spectator stand amidst the cheers of the surrounding audience.
It was a Private Box embedded in the middle of the audience stand, offering the best line of sight. Through the glass, one could clearly see every corner of the arena.
It had been a long time since Bruno and the others had gathered, and they chatted quietly amongst themselves.
After the four heavyweights served as the main attraction, it was time for the main course of this conference: one by one, the Trainers began to enter from the entrance.
"Dun dun~~ Dun dun~~"
Another rousing BGM began to play as a continuous stream of Trainers walked out. Most of the Trainers here had earned their qualification by defeating eight Gym Leaders, but a small portion had qualified through special means, such as being recommended students from the Pokémon Noble Academy, the winners of the Pokémon Appraisal Competition, or those with connections, and so on...
"I see Ash! Over there in the middle!"
With his small eyes, Brock could focus his vision and see clearly, spotting Ash in the crowd almost immediately.
"Where, where... huh? Why does he look so dazed?"
Following Brock's finger, Misty also quickly found their target. But in the crowd, Ash's movements seemed a bit stiff, his expression unnatural, as if he were very nervous. He was even walking with his arm and leg on the same side moving in sync.
Although Ash was the type of competitor who thrived on the crowd, the kind whose on-site performance improved with more spectators.
But this was his first time in front of a crowd of thousands; it was inevitable that he would be nervous.
Ash chuckled. "Pikachu, don't be nervous, it's alright."
Pikachu: "?"
It gave Ash a disdainful look, shook its body, and jumped onto Ash's head, settling on his hat.
"Pika!"
*I was born to receive the cheers of thousands, even tens of thousands. How could I be nervous?*
If it wasn't afraid of being too arrogant, Pikachu would have jumped up right then and there and unleashed a sky-shattering Thunder to focus all the audience's attention on itself.
*An Electric Mouse, Born Extraordinary!*
Soon, not only Ash, but Brock and Misty also saw many familiar faces.
Blue, Gary, and Abin were all among them, while Todd Snap was frantically taking pictures on the sidelines.
He was currently working for the official tournament staff, acting as a photography tool.
Unlike Ash, however, Gary's expression was much calmer. He still had his usual arrogant look, as if all the surrounding Trainers were just small fry. He was just short of holding a cappuccino in his hand.
"Is the Pokémon Gary has with him an Eevee...?"
Brock's gaze fell to Gary's leg, where a small, brownish-yellow, fox-like Pokémon stood. Its fur and posture were exceptionally outstanding and elegant.
This was the same Eevee from Professor Oak's Corral that could go toe-to-toe with Ash's Pikachu. Its strength was formidable.
Every Trainer who entered had a Pokémon by their side. Ash, naturally, was with his Electric Mouse.
