Chapter 31

Chapter 31: vs. Giant Dragonite!

2024-05-15 Author: Samsung Charmander (Author Name)

Red took a Poké Ball from his waist. His gaze darkened slightly as he rubbed it nostalgically for a moment before gently tossing it out.

Ash's Pokémon had already been prepared.

With a flash of red light, a giant brown eagle appeared before everyone.

Its feathers were vibrant and smooth, faintly shimmering with a gorgeous seven-colored light. Its extended wings spanned over three meters wide, and its eagle eyes glinted sharply.

"Pidgeooooot!!"

Upon appearing, it let out a high-pitched cry!

The aura of a fierce raptor soared into the sky, powerful enough to faintly suppress the primordial presence of the behemoth in the sea.

Pidgeot!

This was actually Green's Pokémon.

Red had borrowed it for a while back then but forgot to return it, so he had kept it with him ever since.

"Huh? When did Ash's Pidgeotto secretly evolve?"

"And this Pidgeot is huge..."

Brock and Misty whispered to each other.

An average Pidgeot is only about half a head taller than a normal person.

But this one was clearly a full size larger, looking exceptionally powerful.

Yet, despite its sturdiness, it didn't look bloated. Instead, it was perfectly proportioned and slender.

"I'm counting on you."

Red nodded to the three on the shore. Without waiting for a response, he had already mounted the Pidgeot's back with incredible skill.

"..."

Just before taking off, Red seemed to think of something and tossed another Poké Ball onto the ground.

It was Ash's Charmander.

"Raaawr?"

Upon appearing, Charmander was confused at first.

The draconic presence washing over it immediately drew its attention to the behemoth on the water's surface.

"Raaawr!!"

Surprisingly, Charmander showed no fear. Instead, its eyes widened as it stared intently at the giant beast, letting out a soft, low roar.

"As expected, you're quite special."

Red chuckled softly. He paid no more attention to the Charmander's actions. If it could watch the upcoming battle, it might gain something unexpected.

Immediately after, the Pidgeot flapped its wings forcefully. The violent gust of air it kicked up blasted the three people below.

*Swoosh!*

In the blink of an eye, the boy and the bird had soared dozens of meters into the sky, flying towards the giant Pokémon.

"Why do I feel like Ash has become a completely different person?"

On the shore, Brock was completely bewildered.

His appearance and clothes hadn't changed at all, yet it was as if he were an entirely different person...

It's like my Rock-Solid Will just hit max level...

"Could it be that squinting your eyes makes you look cooler?"

He also tried to narrow his eyes from a slit into a line, trying to make himself look more serious.

Misty, on the other hand, was even more confused. She had felt this way before.

This kid definitely has split personalities!

"Soul Transfer... a friend..."

Meanwhile, Bill stroked his chin. Gazing at the silhouette of the giant eagle in the sky, a theory began to form in his mind.

In mid-air, Red rode the Pidgeot high into the sky.

He flew even a few meters higher than the giant beast, looking down on it from above.

The boy and the beast were now less than ten meters apart, but the dense fog still prevented him from seeing the creature's true form.

So Red frowned slightly and gave a command:

"Utility Pidgeot, use Defog."

"Pidgeooooot!!"

Pidgeot flapped its broad, brown wings. The air surged outward as a storm erupted from its wingtips.

In just a few seconds, it had swept across several hundred meters of the sea's surface.

*Swish-swish-swish...!!*

A true veteran of a utility bird.

The airflow formed a tornado, dispersing the surrounding fog and clearing out a wide field of view on the sea. Only then could the boy and the beast face each other directly.

It was also at this moment that everyone got their first clear look at the giant beast.

It had brownish-yellow skin and a round head from which two yellow antennae swayed.

Two-fifths of its massive body was submerged below the sea's surface. Its upper body was quite round, and on its back was a pair of small wings, giving it the standard appearance of a giant dragon.

"*Beep*. Dragonite, the Fatty Pokémon. A highly rare Pokémon from the Kanto Region. They are few in number, can circle the Earth in three hours, and enjoy eating Kingler."

By the cliff, Ash's Pokedex automatically reported.

"So it wasn't a Kanto Region form of Groudon..."

Bill said slowly, taking half a step back in shock.

With the fog cleared, the three on the cliff also recognized this Pokémon.

Dragonite was considered a signature Pokémon of their Kanto Region; they just never imagined one could grow so massive.

Fatty?

A big, fat fatty.

"Is it an Ancient Pokémon?"

Bill frowned; he had some understanding of this.

In the current data on Ancient Pokémon, most had appearances that were not much different from modern Pokémon, but their sizes were as exaggerated as small mountains.

It was as if ancient Earth was an era where such titans thrived.

"Or is it a Dragonite that snuck over from the Galar Region?"

A new thought popped into his head.

He had been to the Galar Region a few times. The unique Dynamax Pokémon there bore some resemblance to this giant Dragonite.

It was worth mentioning that in Galar, Dragonite was a Pokémon prohibited from using Dynamax and would be blocked at customs.

Any discovered would even be deported.

Perhaps it was kicked out for being smuggled in, causing its Dynamax state to become irreversible?

Bill shook his head violently, dismissing his own guess.

This rugged, wild aura hitting him in the face wasn't something a normal Dynamax could produce.

This had to be a Dragonite of considerable age!

"But can he really capture this Dragonite...?"

He shifted his gaze to the man on the Pidgeot's back, high in the sky...

Ash... who exactly is this boy...?

"Dragonite..."

A hint of interest finally appeared in Red's eyes.

In his memory, Dragonite was the signature Pokémon of the Kanto Region's flying-type Champion, Lance.

Lance was an absolutely powerful man.

He was just a fool who got one-shotted by his own Lapras while posing; hardly a hero.

Although the one before him was still a ways off from top-tier existences like Ho-Oh and Mewtwo in terms of raw power...

...he had no idea how much his own Pokémon's combat power had changed since crossing over to this world.

As his first opponent since arriving in this world...

This was more than enough!

With his fighting spirit ignited, Red tossed another Poké Ball into the air.

"Come out, my old partner!!"

A flash of red light, and a fiery-red, long-winged dragon appeared high in the sky.

"ROOOOAR!!"

It let out a furious roar at the sky. Its vigorous and powerful explosive aura instantly overwhelmed the still-dazed giant Dragonite.

The sound shook the heavens and earth. Ripples instantly spread across the sea, the waves rolling outward endlessly.

The water of the entire coastal area seemed to boil, roiling continuously as if in a tempest.

*FWOOOSH...!!*

Crimson flames spewed forth from the heavens, scorching the clouds in the sky, as embers scattered wantonly and burned to ash.

This was the Pokémon Red had brought from another world, one that was already nearly invincible.

Charizard!!

Red then stood up from Pidgeot's back. In an unhurried tone, he looked directly at the giant Dragonite and issued his declaration of war.

"Battle with me, Dragonite."

This Dragonite seemed to carry some kind of obsession. Not only Bill, but even he, who was seeing it for the first time, could sense it.

But since it had been staying here all this time, even appearing due to a special fluctuation...

...it meant it couldn't resolve its predicament on its own. In that case, he would get involved.

It definitely wasn't because his hands were itching for a fight...

The giant Dragonite looked warily at the suddenly appearing Charizard.

Although its size was on a completely different level, its draconic instincts told it...

This was an unprecedentedly powerful foe!

"AOOOAR!!"

The giant Dragonite soon let out an incomprehensible dragonic roar of its own, clearly not about to surrender on the spot.

Seeing this, the corner of Red's mouth curved up. This was exactly what he wanted.

"In that case, Charizard, let's battle!"

Upon hearing the command, Charizard's draconic eyes flew open, and it once again let out a long roar to the heavens.

*FWOOOSH!!*

Then, it abruptly opened its jaws. A crimson flame like magma spewed forth, transforming into a searing hot pillar of fire that shot toward the giant Dragonite.

With the opponent's massive frame, no aim was needed. The flame struck Dragonite squarely on the neck.

*RUMBLE!!*

The flame shattered, transforming into a ring of fire that wrapped around the giant Dragonite's thick neck.

And as Charizard continued to ramp up its firepower, the flames rushed both upward and downward. The coiling vortex of fire completely enveloped the thirty-to-forty-meter-tall Dragonite.

A colossal vortex of flame!

On the vast sea, a giant pillar of fire had suddenly risen, its red glow making the faces of the spectators on the shore feel hot.

"Use Flare Blitz."

Red commanded crisply.

In the next second, Charizard was cloaked in a layer of fiery red flames that looked ready to explode at any moment.

With a flap of its wings, it charged forward. Midway, the flames burned to their peak, transforming into terrifying, annihilating blue flames.

Within the blue flames, Charizard used its claws to forcibly rip open a large gash in the vortex, and the ball of blue fire plunged straight into this inferno!

*BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!*

The sky-high flames swept out with dominance. Countless waves stirred up from the sea were instantly vaporized in the towering inferno, turning into endless white smoke and steam.

When the flames finally dissipated, the figures of Charizard and the giant Dragonite were simultaneously revealed within the scattering fire.

"Roar..."

The giant Dragonite let out a cry. The scorched black mark on its chest was evidence that the attack had been effective.

On the other side, Charizard also frowned slightly as sparks from the recoil damage flickered across its body.

(Late, my bad. I've written too many goofy scenes and suddenly forgot how to write a hot-blooded battle.)

(Fun fact: I could really use some recommendation votes recently.)
