Chapter 275

Chapter 115: VS Kadabra! (Part 2)

2024-05-15 Author: Samsung Charmander (Author Name)

Kadabra got up. Being a glass cannon, it was still a bit dizzy from that attack.

The Bulbasaur before it, though not large in size, had its four limbs planted firmly on the ground, unmoving as a mountain. A pair of serious eyes stared intently at it.

It immediately held its spoon upright, twirled it in its hand, and flung out a seven-colored wave. In mid-air, it transformed into a colorful blade that skimmed across the ground.

"Whoosh!"

"Use Psycho Cut!"

Ash didn't dare to be careless and quickly responded, "Bulbasaur, block it with Vine Whip!"

Bulbasaur whipped out two vines. They were as nimble as a human's fingers, coming together in a cross shape to strike the Psycho Cut head-on.

"BOOM!!"

The menacing Psycho Cut was struck until it exploded, kicking up a cloud of seven-colored smoke.

"That power..."

He was a bit stunned.

How could such a cool-looking move have so little power?

No, that wasn't right. Ash suddenly realized something.

When the smoke completely cleared, Kadabra's old man-like figure had indeed vanished. With a "whoosh," a golden figure abruptly appeared between him and Bulbasaur—in Bulbasaur's blind spot. The spoon in its hand was even glinting with a strange white light.

Teleport!

This was the move Kadabra was best at, even back in its Abra stage.

"Bulbasaur, dodge it, quick!" Ash said anxiously.

A captivating smile appeared on Sabrina's lips as she called out lightly, "Too late. Use Psybeam."

The spoon in Kadabra's hand trembled, and in an instant, it burst forth with a seven-colored light. It formed a vortex that enveloped Bulbasaur at close range. Then, an invisible psychic force erupted, sending it flying far away with a "BANG!"

A Psychic-type move against the Poison-type Bulbasaur—it was super effective!

"Saur..."

The Psybeam sent it tumbling backward through the air. After landing, its claws scraped a long mark on the ground. A dark, scorched mark was visible on the side of its face.

Its head was also spinning.

Seeing this, Ash once again waved his hand forward and ordered the attack, "Then use Leech Seed!"

Bulbasaur nodded, lifted its body slightly, and arched its back. From the center of its bulb, it spat out a brown seed, which arced in a perfect parabola toward Kadabra's head.

However, Sabrina once again uttered the name of a move Ash had never heard before.

"Kadabra, use Magic Coat!"

The latter waved its spoon, and a pink shield materialized out of thin air in front of it. The Leech Seed landed on it and, as if covered by some special force, suddenly changed direction and was flung back the way it came.

Apply the same force, and the trajectory of the parabola on its return will be identical. This is common sense.

The Leech Seed landed right back on Bulbasaur's back. Vines instantly burst from the seed, "pop, pop, pop," and wrapped Bulbasaur up in a tight knot.

"Zzzzt..."

Soon, a red light signifying draining energy appeared on Bulbasaur, continuously weakening its stamina.

"Vmmm..."

At the same time, a green light of healing energy also appeared on it, continuously restoring its stamina.

Rounding it all up, there was no net gain or loss.

Bulbasaur: "?"

I'm draining... myself?

Ash quickly pulled out his Pokédex and blurted out, "What the heck is this move called Magic Coat?"

The Pokédex beeped. "Magic Coat. A move that can reflect status-altering moves, and even Leech Seed, back to the user," it explained.

This was a physical reflection, so naturally, it couldn't reflect the target of the energy drain as well. That was why it ended up draining itself.

It was like some kind of clipping bug.

"It works on status conditions too? What a disgusting ability..."

Ash scratched his head. His Bulbasaur knew the three status powders. He was planning to launch a surprise Poison Powder next, but if the opponent used this move to block it, the consequences would be unimaginable...

Fortunately, the draining and healing effect of the Leech Seed wasn't causing any real damage to Bulbasaur, but the vines wrapped around its body severely restricted its movement.

Seeing Kadabra once again fling out a seven-colored swirling wave, carrying with it an invisible psychic pressure as it rolled forward, Ash quickly shouted, "Bulbasaur, use Vine Whip!"

Since its limbs were entangled by Leech Seed, it would use its vines. Bulbasaur's vine whip was even more agile than its body!

"Saur!"

Bulbasaur shot out two vines from a gap in the tangled mess, slammed them fiercely against the ground in front of it, and used the reactive force to leap high into the air, successfully dodging the Psybeam.

Seeing this, Ash's eyes suddenly lit up, and he roared, "Now's your chance! Use Toad Stun Spore!"

Bulbasaur understood. They had rehearsed this move.

In mid-air, it took a sharp breath, and its lower abdomen immediately swelled up like a small pouch. Then, its bulb shook, releasing countless specks of pale yellow powder. Before they could even drift down, Bulbasaur forcefully expelled all the air from its belly, and the Stun Spore shot forward like a hurricane.

Kadabra had just started to raise its spoon to use Magic Coat again, but it was too late. It got a face full of the pale yellow powder and, after inhaling a mouthful, began coughing violently.

"Bzzzt..."

The next second, faint electric sparks began to appear on Kadabra's body, and its movements couldn't help but become a little stiff.

It was paralyzed!

Ash slapped his thigh, thinking to himself that this was a perfect surprise attack.

But just as he was about to look at Sabrina with a triumphant grin, he saw that she was also looking at him, her mysterious eyes filled with amusement.

Before Ash could realize what was happening, Bulbasaur, having just landed from mid-air, suddenly staggered, its landing unsteady.

Even more surprising, electric sparks were now running across its body as well. It was clearly paralyzed.

"When did that happen?!"

Not just Ash, but all the spectators were dumbfounded. When had this "Garlic Turtle" gotten hit?

"It's my Kadabra's ability, Synchronize," Sabrina slowly explained.

Synchronize passes one's own status condition onto the enemy.

So, in reality, she had no intention of using Magic Coat to reflect the status condition. Instead, she only pretended she was going to, giving Ash every opportunity to use his move.

Bulbasaur is a Pokémon that excels at using status-altering moves. That's common knowledge.

Of course, as a Gym Leader, educating a challenger is also a necessary skill.

And for some reason, Sabrina was now finding that she rather enjoyed the frustrated expression on the face of the youth before her. It was very amusing.

*Then let's make it a little more interesting...*

Sabrina suddenly spoke again, "Kadabra, use Psycho Shift!"

Ash's eyes widened. What kind of move was this now?

Kadabra shook its spoon, and in the next second, the paralyzing current on its body had completely vanished, while the current on Bulbasaur suddenly grew more intense.

If it was lightly paralyzed before, now it was paralysis-plus...

The Pokédex beeped. "Psycho Shift. A move that can transfer the user's own status condition to the target Pokémon," it explained meticulously.

If the most insidious and mysterious type was Ghost, then the most disgusting type had to be Psychic, with all its flashy tricks.

They don't hit you; they just play you to death.

Sabrina didn't give him any chance to recover, speaking once more, "Kadabra, use Recover."

With a wave of its spoon, a purifying white light shone on Kadabra's body. It instantly looked brand new, as if it had just rolled off the factory line. It was a suffocating sight.

Ash: "..."

Are we even going to fight or what?
