Chapter 111: The Beginning, the Battle on the Silph Co. Rooftop!

2024-05-15 Author: Samsung Charmander (Author Name)

(A background image for this part has been posted and pinned in the comment section. It looks something like that.) —

Two days later, on the rooftop of the Silph Co. Building.

It was the night of a full moon. There were few clouds, and the bright, clear moonlight shone down upon the floor.

The rooftop was currently empty, yet it was brilliantly lit.

All sorts of lights were even embedded beneath the floor, all shining upward. The floor seemed to transform into a transparent glass barrier, illuminated from below in various colors.

Even the white markings of the Training Ground on top had been repainted and touched up, remaining a pristine white under the lights.

In contrast to the Silph Co. Building, the rooftops of the surrounding buildings were packed with crowds of people. They were all seated in tiered spectator seats that had been set up on their respective rooftops, looking around and chattering amongst themselves.

From the surrounding rooftops, several neon laser beams shot out, extending from the buildings all the way up to the clouds high in the sky.

Looking up from the ground, it was as if some kind of nightclub or rave was happening up in the sky, looking extremely cool and flashy.

Despite it being late at night, the atmosphere was even more fervent than during the day.

Holding popcorn in one hand and a cup of cola in the other, the audience's discussions were exceptionally intense.

"Have you heard? The Saffron Gym challenge match is being held here again tonight."

"The last time it was this grand was three years ago, right?"

"Sigh, our Saffron City has finally returned to its former glory!"

Thanks to a massive promotional campaign by Silph Co., over two days, a large number of Saffron City citizens, and even people from surrounding cities, had rushed over, wanting to witness the lavish splendor of the Kanto Region's largest city.

Just looking at the flashy, dazzling lights all around was worth the price of admission.

"La la la~~!"

Soon, a rousing BGM suddenly blared from the Silph Co. Building, causing the surrounding crowd of spectators to erupt in an instant, their cheers roaring.

"Swoosh!" "Swoosh!" "Swoosh!"

Several flashes of white light appeared out of thin air, and a few figures materialized simultaneously on the colorful floor.

It was Ash and his group, Da Che, the Silph Co. President, and a few staff members.

The rooftop didn't have any connecting stairs; travel to and from it relied entirely on Silph Co.'s special transfer device.

"They're out! Which one is the challenger?"

"The one with the fat mouse on his shoulder. I heard he's a veteran trainer who's been traveling for ten years."

"I think his name is Xiao Zhang, right?"

"That super cute girl next to him is adorable."

"I heard Saffron City was saved all thanks to him. This old man sees that he has an extraordinary bearing; he must be a battle genius."

"That master is amazing. I wonder what level he's at now?"

"Heh heh, this unworthy one only made it to the Top 256 of last year's Indigo League Conference."

"I shall call you the strongest!"

Hearing the whispers around him, the corners of the Silph Co. President's mouth curled up slightly, revealing a satisfied expression.

This battle was not just a Saffron Gym battle; it was a grand celebration for Saffron City and Silph Co., indirectly announcing to everyone:

Silph Co. is back!

He was still that same cash-flashing youth, without a single trace of change.

"Is that the Silph Co. President? I hear everyone's calling him the legendary 'fat sheep' now."

"I don't know. I heard he was imprisoned by the Rainbow Group for two years. That's pretty hilarious."

"It's true. I've read the doujinshi about it."

"Bro, PM me."

"I have a friend who's asking."

Silph Co. President: "..."

His brow furrowed. He decided to ignore the surrounding whispers and glanced at his watch.

There were still a few minutes until the appointed time of eight o'clock, so he walked over to the spectator seats to the side and sat down quietly.

"Whoa, hometown buddy, is this your doing? This is way too cool!"

Blue scanned her surroundings. The various multi-colored, pulsating, dazzling lights were nearly blinding her, and she could only gawk around curiously like a country bumpkin.

"Don't fool around. We're people of status now," Ash quickly reminded her in a low voice.

To be honest, he had also been startled by the scene at first glance. The transparent floor, the neon glare, and the massive crowd of spectators all around... it was like watching a soccer match.

It was his first time on a stage, being watched by such a huge crowd.

Deep breath.

Stay steady!

"By the way, Ash, have you thought about your strategy for today? With so many people watching, it'll be really embarrassing if you lose, you know," Misty reminded him.

Sabrina wasn't weak to begin with, and on top of that, Ash had already lost to her once. She really didn't understand who gave him the courage to want to have a match here.

"Hmph! Last time, Sabrina was basically cheating! I won't lose this time!"

Ash clenched his fists and let out a small shout to bolster his own courage.

He was the type of person whose performance improved the more spectators there were. What he craved was the cheers of the entire arena, to be the center of everyone's attention.

In other words, a so-called "hot-headed" type of Contestant.

When he thought about how in the Silph Co. dungeon, both Blue and Gary had fought a real battle, while he had just drunk a cup of coffee, his great sword was already thirsting for action!

Today, I'll use you, Sabrina, to blow off some steam!

"I believe in you, Ash!"

Brock's eyes were deep as he patted Ash's shoulder encouragingly.

"I believe in you too, hometown buddy!"

Blue made an energetic fist pump and said with a grin.

Seeing that it was almost time, the three of them smiled and sat down in the friends and family section to the side, which was a VVIP viewing spot.

Soon, the time reached 8 o'clock.

"Swoosh!" "Swoosh!" "Swoosh!"

Several more flashes of white light appeared, and three figures materialized at the other end of the arena.

One was a middle-aged man with sideburns, though he had taken off his hat for the occasion. He wore a neat formal suit, giving him the air of a high-society gentleman.

Another was a middle-aged woman, leaning against him with a gentle and elegant demeanor.

And in front of the two was a woman in red, her appearance slightly different from what they had seen before.

Her long black hair was tied up in a ponytail that hung down her back, with beautiful bangs framing her forehead.

Her beautiful face, while still not showing much emotion, had softened.

She wore a tight, red mini-dress paired with long black stockings, her figure fiery and alluring. On her feet was a pair of cyan boots, adding a touch of elegance.

Ash and his group had relied on technology to reach the rooftop, while the three from the Saffron Gym had relied on metaphysics. This was an old tradition in Saffron City.

"Is that woman Sabrina? She's so cute, isn't she?"

"Young man, control your lower half. They say that woman eats people and doesn't even spit out the bones."

"I heard that with just a single thought, she could blow up our entire Saffron City."

Hearing the discussions around them, the middle-aged couple exchanged a glance, thinking to themselves that Sabrina's reputation in Saffron City was indeed terrible right now.

In today's battle, they absolutely had to show everyone the positive image of the Saffron Gym!

With that, the woman retreated to the friends and family section behind Sabrina, while the middle-aged man walked to the center of the arena to act as the Referee.

At this moment, Ash and Sabrina also took their places at opposite ends of the arena.

"Sabrina, I won't lose to you this time!"

Ash shouted righteously, his gaze like fire.

"..."

For some reason, these words brought a faint blush to Sabrina's fair face.

But it vanished in an instant, and her gaze also turned serious.

Even though Ash had saved their Saffron City and the Saffron Gym, she would still face this battle seriously.

"According to the traditions of the Saffron Gym, this battle will be a 3v3!"

"The Saffron Gym Challenge Match... begins now!"

As his words fell, the surrounding cheers reached a climax. The various lights flashed in concert, and the battle was about to begin!
