Chapter 114
Chapter 1003: A Wild Raikou!
May 15, 2024 Author: Samsung Charmander (Author Name)
Don't be fooled by Mawile being a Fairy- and Steel-type Pokémon.
A fun fact: of all the moves Mawile can learn, Dark-type moves are the most numerous.
With a burst of power from Payback, Mawile's strange, large mouth gathered all its strength and slammed heavily into the Combusken right before it.
BOOM!
After a violent explosion, Combusken's entire body was sent flying backward like a cannonball, landing at the very end of the stage—a testament to the move's terrifying power.
"Cha!"
But even Payback wasn't enough to completely incapacitate this Combusken.
It braced itself with its hands on the ground, about to push itself back to its feet.
"That's enough, Combusken."
However, its trainer May sighed and called out softly.
On the electronic screen, May's HP bar had already been depleted.
"There we have it! The winner of this Slateport City Pokémon Contest is Contestant Blue from Pallet Town!"
Following the voice of the host, Vivian, the entire arena erupted into tremendous cheers.
Even Blue was stunned for a moment. When she finally came to her senses, she rushed forward and threw her arms around Mawile.
"You did so well~!"
She had originally planned to go all out and try Mawile's Mega Evolution. It seemed that wouldn't be necessary now.
"Wuwu~!"
At this moment, Mawile had lost its dangerous and cunning aura, truly appearing like a harmless, girlish Pokémon.
"Tsk tsk, what a big change."
Seeing this, May could only give a helpless smile and joined everyone in the audience in applauding.
The girl in front of her seemed to have two faces, making her completely inscrutable.
And so, the Pokémon Contest officially came to a close with Blue winning a magnificent Ribbon.
Meanwhile, Ash, in the audience, had also gained a lot.
"Beep, beep. Combusken has mastered a new move, Flame Charge," the Pokédex prompted.
It was a bit of a shame it didn't copy Fire Punch as well, but this was still a huge win for him.
The next time he encountered a Pokémon Contest...
Hmph, Ash had no intention of suffering another first-round elimination and end up just a spectator.
Afterward.
May said her goodbyes to the group and left Slateport City a step ahead of them.
"This bicycle redemption coupon..."
Surprisingly, however, May didn't accept the redemption coupon.
Although her own bicycle had been turned to charcoal by Pikachu's electric shock, it was still repairable, so she didn't need a new one.
Hearing this, Ash didn't insist. The three of them spent one last peaceful night in the Presidential Hotel before setting out again, full of energy.
Route 110.
This was a long, narrow stretch of wild grassland flanked on both sides by water.
At the very end of the route, the water on either side disappeared, and the plains began to widen. The outline of Mauville City had now come into view.
"We've finally reached another city~!"
Blue said languidly, still reminiscing about the large bed in the Presidential Suite of the Presidential Hotel in Slateport City.
"No problem. Mauville City is the central city of the entire Hoenn Region. We can have a good rest again," Brock said, holding up his travel guide.
Although Mauville City isn't as bustling as Goldenrod City or Saffron City, it's still a large, modern city.
After all, as the hometown of the Hoenn Region's largest enterprise—Great Mauville Enterprise—it benefited quite a bit.
Even after the enterprise went bankrupt, the city itself remained exceptionally prosperous.
"We're Trainers! Adventure and battle are our goals, not resting!" Ash shouted with high spirits, walking backward along the path, constantly trying to boost the morale of his two lazy companions.
He had been looking forward to the Mauville Gym in Mauville City for a long time.
"Bzzzt!"
But they hadn't walked for long when Ash suddenly heard the crackling sound of an electric current from behind him.
Blue and Brock's faces instantly changed.
"?"
Confused by their reaction but sensing the seriousness, Ash turned his head back around.
There, on the plains before the three of them, a Pokémon had appeared.
It had a massive, beast-like body, a majestic tiger's head, and sharp, saber-like teeth.
Its yellow body was covered in black, lightning-like stripes, and its back was a mane of purple, flowing clouds.
Electric current crackled all over its body.
"Raikou?!"
Ash's expression froze. This was an old acquaintance of his.
He currently had Raikou's "brother"—Entei—with him.
No, the Legendary Beasts are a species, not unique individuals, so this one might not know his Entei.
But why would there be one of the Legendary Beasts in the Hoenn Region?
And its appearance...
For some reason, Ash felt that this Raikou before him seemed a little off compared to the Raikou in his memory.
"ROAR!"
Soon, this "Raikou" let out a low roar, its body wreathed in lightning as it dashed toward the group.
"But if you're going to attack, I won't hold back!"
Seeing this, Ash's battle intent flared, and he pointed forward.
"I choose you, Pikachu! Use Iron Tail!"
"Pika!"
Pikachu ran right up Ash's arm and then leaped into the air.
Its metallic tail gleamed with a cold light as it chopped down directly at the Raikou's head.
CLANG!
But the point of impact rang out with the sound of colliding metal, as if Pikachu's Iron Tail had struck a piece of steel.
"ROAR!"
The "Raikou" threw its head back, forcefully knocking Pikachu into the air.
"In that case, use Thunderbolt!"
Understanding, Pikachu tensed its body in mid-air. A moment later, a surging thunderbolt crashed down, striking the Raikou.
Bzzzt...!!
But after the electric current passed, the Raikou showed no signs of being affected.
Strands of lightning occasionally flickered across its body, as if it had completely absorbed Pikachu's electric shock.
Ash frowned. The effect looked like Motor Drive, but as far as he knew, Raikou shouldn't have an ability that grants it immunity to Electric-type moves, should it?
Thinking of this, Ash's competitive spirit was stirred.
"If that's the case, Pikachu, use Thunder with all your might!"
It's rare to come across a wild Raikou. Let's see if my electric shock is stronger, or if your absorption ability is better!
Pikachu understood. It landed on all fours, its back arching completely.
"Pika, CHU!"
With a low cry, a bolt of lightning shot from its body, soaring into the sky.
The next moment.
RUUUMBLE!
An incredibly thick bolt of thunderous lightning crashed down from the clouds above, striking the Raikou dead-on.
The terrifying pressure of the thunder and lightning was so intense that it completely crushed and shattered the ground around the Raikou.
The Raikou, caught in the center of the lightning strike, suddenly began to twitch erratically.
BOOM!
Then, it exploded on the spot, sending up clouds of smoke and dust...
Ash: "?"
The sight left him completely dumbfounded.
