Chapter 17

## Chapter 13: Excessive Humility.

By Fu Hejun

"It seems, Senior, you have gained some comprehension."

Ye Cheng looked at Sword Douluo, whose mental state had changed quite a bit, and said with a smile.

"I must thank you, young friend, for your guidance yesterday." At this moment, Sword Douluo's attitude towards him had clearly changed; even his form of address had shifted. Previously, due to Ye Cheng's identity, no matter how amiable he appeared, Sword Douluo had subconsciously always regarded Ye Cheng as a junior.

However, after Ye Cheng's guidance yesterday, coupled with sensing his unfathomable strength, Sword Douluo finally completely acknowledged him as an equal in his heart. It was no longer just a superficial gesture, and thus his form of address changed to 'young friend'.

Ye Cheng smiled and said indifferently, "I wouldn't dare take credit for guidance. Those were merely some shallow insights of mine."

Although the Douluo Continent is a World of Martial Souls, the Soul Masters of this World are too reliant on Soul Rings. They never thought of developing the true potential of their own Martial Souls, only fixating on the Soul Skills granted by Soul Rings. They fundamentally neglect the development of their own Martial Souls; even if there is some, it's too primitive and crude.

A few individuals who properly developed their own Martial Souls created some techniques that could be used in conjunction with them. These were then referred to as Self-created Soul Skills by those in the Soul Master world.

These geniuses who could create Self-created Soul Skills could then completely overwhelm Soul Masters of the same era. For example, the ancestor of the Clear Sky Sect, the first-generation Haotian Douluo Tang Chen, dominated an era by relying on Self-created Soul Skills like the Nine Ultimate Clears and the Great Sumeru Hammer.

However, in reality, these Self-created Soul Skills weren't truly as profound and unfathomable as they seemed. Their perceived power mainly stemmed from the contrast provided by their peers, and the fact that the genius Soul Masters who created these Soul Skills were themselves exceptionally formidable.

Ultimately, the Soul Master system is still too rudimentary.

It would be better if we were talking about Soul Masters tens of thousands of years later. By then, due to the development of Soul Guiding Technology, society would have rapidly advanced, people would have shed their ignorance, gradually broken free from their reliance on Soul Rings, and begun to explore the essence of Martial Souls… Eventually, they would even be able to create Artificial Soul Rings, no longer needing to depend on the existence of Soul Beasts.

Only then would the Soul Master system be a relatively complete system.

However, the current Douluo Continent's Soul Master system is still in a very backward era of development. It cannot be separated from Soul Beasts; if Soul Beasts were to perish, Soul Masters would perish along with them!

At the current stage, the Soul Master system is too rudimentary; even cultivation can only be done through meditation. There isn't even a self-contained cultivation method. It's in a stage where it has just budded but has subtly grown a bit awry.

Therefore, Ye Cheng's words yesterday were nothing short of a profound revelation for Sword Douluo, making him vaguely perceive his own limitations. He saw a path he had never conceived of.

He had a premonition that he was not far from a Level 97 breakthrough.

From Level 95 onwards, every Level of advancement for Soul Masters is not merely about accumulating Soul Power. It also requires a personal comprehension. Some people remain stuck at a single Level their entire lives.

If not for Ye Cheng's words yesterday, Sword Douluo knew he might not be able to achieve a breakthrough from Level 96 to Level 97 even if given another ten years.

Precisely because of this, after hearing Ye Cheng's words, Sword Douluo could only smile wryly and say, "Young friend, excessive humility can border on hypocrisy."

If such shallow insights could lead to his comprehension, then this world would probably be insane itself.
