Chapter 821: Early Summer Dream
Because Hissashi had been standing behind Mori Kogoro and Hattori Heiji, when Fortune Teller Kwon Do Keiko looked over, the others couldn't tell who she was looking at.
Hattori Heiji was speechless. "Are we that scary?"
Hissashi thought for a moment, feeling that Fortune Teller Kwon Do Keiko might have been scared by him. "I know her. Her name is Fortune Teller Kwon Do Keiko, and she works as a Fortune Teller outside the Beika Building."
"So she really is a Fortune Teller," Hattori Heiji said, walking towards Hissashi's Car. "She doesn't seem quite right in the head..."
Conan, however, understood what Hissashi meant. Looking up at Hissashi, he asked, "Brother Chi, are you saying she knows you too? Was her reaction just now because she saw you?"
He wondered if Hissashi had done something weird again and driven another person crazy...
"Huh?" Hattori Heiji turned his head to look at Hissashi.
Hissashi stepped forward, opened the Car Door, and got in. "Not sure. I met her In front of the Apartment that day. She gave me a Crystal Ball, said it could ward off Disaster or something. I haven't seen her since."
Conan got in the Car and pondered, stroking his chin.
If it's just that, it shouldn't be related to Hissashi, right? But among them, only Hissashi has met that Fortune Teller. It couldn't be because of them.
Or Rather...
Hattori Heiji also thought of the same thing. He turned his head to look at the Car Rear, but didn't notice anything Abnormality before getting back into the Car. "Weird, there's nothing here."
"I bet she's just putting on an act," Mori Kogoro said casually, lighting a Cigarette. "First, she strikes up a conversation with Hassashi, gives him a Crystal Ball, and tells him he's facing a major Disaster. Then, today, when she sees Hassashi again, she puts on a terrified act. It's all to pique Hassashi's Curiosity and make him want to go to the Beika Building to find her. And then, she'll tell Hassashi that he's being haunted by an Evil Spirit or something, and get Hassashi to spend a lot of Money to Exorcise Evil Spirits."
Hissashi: "..."
His Teacher made a lot of sense.
If he hadn't remembered that Xiaomei, who often turns her head upside down, was at Home these days, he might have almost believed it.
Could Fortune Teller Kwon Do Keiko have heard something from that Bug in the Crystal Ball, which is why she was so scared?
Most likely.
"Is that so..." Hattori Heiji didn't come to a conclusion. He thought Uncle Mori made sense, but Fortune Teller Kwon Do Keiko's fear just now seemed very real. If it was Acting, then her Acting Skill was a bit too good.
"You're still young, you still have a lot to learn," Mori Kogoro said. "Those Fortune Teller and Feng Shui Master types all like to mystify things, saying ambiguous or scary Words to make people Trust them."
"Uh-huh..." Hattori Heiji stroked his chin. Brother Hichiji, although he usually has a cold face and doesn't seem easy to get along with, he wouldn't scare someone to that extent, would he? There's definitely a Problem. "Then, another day, Brother Hichiji and I will go over and Check it out. If she's planning to scam people, I won't let her get away with it!"
"I'll go too!" Conan said eagerly.
Right, there's definitely a Problem here. Either Hissashi did something, or that Woman did something. She was only that scared after seeing Hissashi.
"Whatever you guys want. Anyway, I have things to do Tomorrow and won't Keep Company you running around," Mori Kogoro said, smoking a Cigarette. "So, what do we do now?"
"Let's wait a little longer," Hattori Heiji said, looking through the Car Window at the Residence next door. "It's weird that that Woman suddenly canceled the Commission. This is 4-chome, after all. If we wait a while, we might see a Suspicious Person and get a Clue about the Arsonist..."
Mori Kogoro didn't insist. He asked Hissashi for the Antique Catalog Xuanda (Family Name) had given him and looked through it while smoking a Cigarette. "Just some Small Item, nothing special..."
Hissashi sat in the Driver's Seat, looking at the Street Outside the window.
There are many people like Xuanda (Family Name) who go door-to-door selling things. He wouldn't say saintly things like, 'Households work very Hard, Households also have it tough, why can't their Attitude be a little better?' because sometimes, some people are indeed very annoying. Once they enter your Door, they insist on nagging you, regardless of whether you're interested or not. Some people just have no Eyesight.
The reason he proactively asked for Xuanda (Family Name)'s Things was partly to replenish Hassashi's Toy Collection stock, and also...
Just now, he remembered his cheap Old Mom.
The Old House where the Chi Family originally lived would also have salespeople come by. Usually, they were stopped by the Butler and Servant. In the Original Consciousness's memory, there was only one time, when he was around five years old, two months before Chi Kana left.
It was around this time of early summer. That Day, Chi Kana intended to take the Original Consciousness out for a stroll. She didn't Call the Driver, changed into a refreshing Light Blue Long Dress, and wore a Wide-brimmed Hat. In that memory, Chi Kana's clothing Style didn't yet have the calm, dignified Feeling she has Present. Holding her Son's hand, she softly spoke and smiled as they went out the Main Gate.
At the Main Entrance, there was a salesperson who had been stopped, talking to the Maid with effort. Seeing Chi Kana Go Out, he came over without any Eyesight, preparing to sell, before the Maid could even stop him.
'Excuse me, I'm about to Go Out with my Child right now. If you have any Good Stuff Product to Recommend, please tell the Maid, okay? If it's Good Stuff, they'll share it with me.'
That was Chi Kana's Response. Her Attitude was firm, but her Tone was as gentle and mild as usual.
That Day, there was Wind. Chi Kana held the Original Consciousness's Right Hand and used her free Left Hand to press her Hat. The hat brim and Hair Strand were blown by the Wind, partially obscuring her Face. The Original Consciousness looked up at his Mother's gentle Smile and thought his Old Mom was the most beautiful in the World.
That salesperson didn't stop them to nag anymore. He said, 'I should be the one saying sorry for disturbing you,' and went Aside to talk to the Maid.
Just now, that Day's Scene suddenly flashed in his mind. Inexplicably, he Speak Out and proactively asked Xuanda (Family Name) for Things...
Conan, who was sitting in the Passenger Seat, turned around and looked at the Antique Catalog with Mori Kogoro for a while. When he retracted his Line of Sight, he saw Hissashi looking out the Car Window, lost in thought. His Expression and Gaze were Still as before, and Conan couldn't tell what Hissashi was Thinking. Curious, he asked, "Brother Chi, what are you Thinking about?"
Hissashi Still Staring out the Car Window, saying calmly, "Don't worry about me. I'm just spacing out for a bit."
Conan choked. "Okay, okay." Since Hissashi was so confidently stating that he wanted to space out, he wouldn't bother him.
Hissashi looked at the bright Sunshine spilling onto the Street.
What am I Thinking about?
I was Thinking about his gentle yet cruel cheap Old Mom.
What the Original Consciousness couldn't understand the most was probably why his Mother, who could treat so many people with Gentleness, would suddenly become so Indifference and cruel to him, and Leave Immediately.
And then he started to Suspect Life and Suspect Oneself.
As he Thought about it, Hissashi started to review The Boss's Routine targeting him again, searching for the Details of each step to attack his heart.
Revealing the Genetic Disease, disturbing his Mind, Sniping the Humans who had once bullied the Original Consciousness, expressing recognition and acceptance...
Even without adding the Technological Brainwashing afterwards, this Routine was already elaborate enough. It was also possible to Judgment that the Organization or The Boss had been Staring at the Original Consciousness for more than just a Day or two.
On the Street Opposite Door, Nameless squatted Roadside, looking up at Hissashi in the Car.
Initially, it was still Curious about what this Human was Thinking, and what thoughts were hidden in those calm, waveless Eyes. But soon, it became too lazy to be Curious anymore.
The Sunshine today is nice, perfect for dozing off.
In a daze, it seemed to return to that afternoon.
At that time, it was even smaller than it is now.
It had a Home, a female Automatic Feeder in that Home who would hug it and rub her face against it when she was happy, who would have her arm around it when sleeping at night, and who wouldn't get angry even if it hopped around or knocked over the Cup on the Table.
An Automatic Feeder who was as young as the guy in the Car and lived in a high-rise Building.
She didn't like it getting dirty, and it would clean itself up and make itself pretty, but sometimes when she paid more attention to other Things than it, it would intentionally get itself dirty and make the Home dirty.
That afternoon, it deliberately dug in the Soil of the Flower Pot and got itself dirty, and then she took it to bathe.
It didn't like bathing. Floating in the Water didn't feel safe, and the Water made its Fur sticky and uncomfortable, but it liked it when she held it after bathing and slowly dried its Fur with a Towel, and then sat on a Chair like that afternoon, holding it in her arms and basking in the Sun, her Hand slowly stroking its half-dry Fur, stroke by stroke.
Even though it had to lick its Fur completely and smooth it out after each stroke, it still felt that the Sunshine that day was really nice.
She was its, and she should like it the most.
That's what it thought at first, even though its World was silent.
At that time, it couldn't hear. It thought the World was just like this, and it didn't affect anything. It would hide behind the Table and watch her Lip Shape calling it, and it would happily go over to let her pet it.
Until one day, she took it out to a Place with a lot of Animal scents, and also with unpleasant scents and people in a hurry. When they came back, she didn't take it behind That Door on the First Floor. It scratched at the Door with its Claws from Outside, feeling unhappy in its Heart.
She actually forgot about it.
It decided to make her worry for a while to express its displeasure, so it left there and went to play in the nearby Park for a while. It was also hit on the Head by an empty Bottle. Looking at the two Children laughing happily, it became even more unhappy.
It wanted to make her worry a little longer.
But when it got dark, it still returned Outside the Building.
The World Outside was really dangerous. Many Steel Monsters would suddenly rush past, strange Things would fall from the sky, and annoying Children would throw Things to tease it. The Weather Outside after autumn was also very Cold and not warm at all.
It decided to be nicer to her in the future, and be more gentle. When it slept at Home every day, it was still angry that she always ran Outside. That day, it felt that she must be working very Hard Outside every day.
It squatted Opposite Door the Main Gate, Staring at That Door, also wondering whether to show anger first or to show Comfort and understanding when she came out.
Time became very long. When the Lights on the Street went out and it dawned, she finally came out, without looking at it, and walked straight to the Cement Platform.
It was a little angry and originally didn't want to pay attention to her, but after thinking about it, it decided to put aside its Face and go Check on her first. But when it went over, she showed a fierce Expression.
It was very angry, turned its Head and left, watching from afar as she entered the Mouth of a Steel Monster. It was startled and quickly chased after the Steel Monster.
She was still so clumsy that she was actually eaten. But seeing that she wasn't in pain, it meant she could still be saved.
The World Outside was still so dangerous. It was startled by other Steel Monsters rushing past and lost track of her.
That was its most frustrated moment. So much so that when it saw her come out of the Steel Monster's Belly at night, it happily hopped over, wanting to give her a hug.
But she didn't Reach Out her Hand, and even Dodged away, Speed Up Pace and entered the Building, once again letting the Glass Door block it Outside.
It suspected that its Fur was dirty, so it licked it again and again, waiting Day after Day for her to reappear. But she never hugged it again. Every time she saw it, her Expression became more and more impatient.
She was pretending not to recognize it, but the Bag she carried still had its Paw Print on it!
Later, she changed her Bag, and gradually lost its Scent on her body.
It began to hear Sounds. At first, the Sound startled it and gave it diarrhea for two Days.
On the last night, it silently buried Poop in the Park Flowerbed, and suddenly felt Uncomfortable in its Heart.
She seemed to not want it anymore, unwilling to let it go Home, and even pretending not to recognize it.
During the Day, it heard her Voice, with annoyed Emotion and impatient waving Action.
Was she treating it like an annoying Ghost that wouldn't Leave her? It wasn't!
That Day, after burying its Poop, it randomly chose a Direction and kept walking and walking.
It saw many Companions. Before she brought it Home, it would also see those Companions.
It learned that the Steel Monster was not something that ate people, but just a Tool that carried Humans to various Places, controlled by Humans, without any Ideology, and of course, it didn't mind letting it jump on and squat to See the Scenery occasionally.
It began to listen to Movements and Dodge Things that suddenly flew over, and could also avoid people when they came over, connecting Humans' Mouth Actions with the Intention she used to express.
Unfortunately, many Companions didn't Think as much as it did, and didn't understand as much. They were really too stupid.
Fortunately, there was it. It could lead them to avoid Danger and beg for Food.
At first, there were times when it couldn't handle Things, but it was the Boss. It had to learn, to be the most powerful one, to take care of all its Underlings, and to make them all convinced.
Also, it must Teach a Lesson to those annoying Silly Birds that would pluck their beautiful Feathers, especially those Black Silly Birds. It was those Black ones that liked to pluck Feathers, and they came in Groups!
Then one day, when it was leading its Underlings to fight a Group fight with those Black Crows, it encountered an even more arrogant Black Crow. The other party actually brought a larger and more dangerous Creature to be a Helper.
That was a Creature Humans called 'Eagle', with fierce Gaze and sharp Claws. It was too much bullying for a Meow.
What was even more bullying for a Meow was that the Crow actually spoke their Language, flying in the sky and meowing to let it, the leader, come out.
Did it think it would be afraid like this? It wouldn't!
Okay, it admitted that it was Curious about that Crow. It didn't know the Language of other Creatures, and Humans couldn't understand its Words, but that Crow could Communicate with it. It was really amazing.
It didn't hate Non-Ink. Although Non-Ink was pitch-black, it felt very ugly at first glance, but if you got closer and looked carefully, the Feathers on Non-Ink's body would reflect a faint Radiance, which was very magical, more magical than the Lamplight, Moonlight, and Sunlight on the Street, making it couldn't help but want to Reach Out its Claws to hook it... cough, anyway, after it and Non-Ink fought each other, it agreed to a truce. Even if they were to fight, it would just be for training Soldiers.
The word 'training Soldiers' was something it heard from Non-Ink.
Non-Ink said it wanted to make its Subordinates sharpen their Claws and make its Subordinates understand how to Cooperate Tactics.
It asked Non-Ink if it was going to fight with someone?
Non-Ink said that it wanted to be prepared to fight with any other Creature, but for now, it was just fighting with Cats.
Non-Ink knew many Things and had seen many, many Things. It didn't want to help the stupid Crows, but if Non-Ink fought with other Creatures, it was willing to bring its Underlings over to Help.
However, before they could fight side by side, it suddenly Discovery that Non-Ink, that Silly Bird, actually had a Human Master...
