Chapter 772

Chapter 778 Mori Kogoro: It Generally Doesn't Bite

A banquet, host and guests all enjoyed themselves.

Chi Feichei and Kuroki Jiro didn't drink much, exchanging a few words occasionally.

Hayakawa Seizan and Mori Kogoro were still the ones who drank the most.

Hayakawa Seizan noticed Chi Feichei and Kuroki Jiro discussing paintings, occasionally interjecting with a few words. If he hadn't felt it was impolite to leave Mori Kogoro alone, he would have liked to discuss painting appreciation with Chi Feichei.

The Young Man isn't a Professional, but he's not clueless either. His taste is discerning, and some of his ideas are quite remarkable.

Thinking this, Hayakawa Seizan actively stated, "Whether Mr. Mouri comes or not, as long as Mr. Chi is willing, you are always welcome to visit."

Kuroki Jiro also repeatedly expressed his welcome, which surprised Mori Kogoro a little.

Is his Disciple Kuroki Jiro so good at making a Good Impression?

After a few rounds of drinks, Mori Kogoro looked at the Painting on the Easel by the Wall Side, "Master Seizan, is that Painting you painted recently? Mount Fuji, it's really realistically painted!"

"Yes, this Mount Fuji is something a Business recently Requested me to Help them paint," Hayakawa Seizan stroked his Beard, turning his Head to ask Chi Feichei, "What do you think?"

Chi Feichei looked at the Sketch. Setting aside the mastery of Details, Mount Fuji is indeed well-suited for a triangular Composition. But using Mount Fuji as a distant view, with darker foreground Trees and Mountain stones in the lower corner, makes the Mountain appear even taller and grander. "Master-level Composition."

Hayakawa Seizan laughed heartily, "Composition is just fundamental, but it certainly highlights Ability and Level."

Chi Feichei Nodded. Even if a Master helped someone like Sato Miwako, who's artistically challenged, to figure out the Composition, she'd still mess up the Painting.

Conan curiously asked Uncle Kuroki, "Then Uncle Kuroki, aren't you Helping people with Paintings?"

Mouri Ran also looked at Kuroki Jiro, "You've been Master Seizan's Disciple Kuroki Jiro for a long Time, haven't you?"

Kuroki Jiro said Smilingly, "Yes."

"I once saw a Painting he did before, it was really good!" Mori Kogoro, holding his Wine Glass, said to Conan and Mouri Ran, then looked at Kuroki Jiro, "But you're different from Master Seizan, you paint in Colored, right?"

"Yes," Kuroki Jiro said with a smile, "I paint in Colored."

"By the Way," Mori Kogoro looked again at Hayakawa Seizan, who was seated in the Lord's position, "I remember that Competition that Master Seizan is a judge for, the one called... what was it? Is it happening soon?"

"I didn't expect you to remember so clearly," Hayakawa Seizan said, his Face flushed red from the Drunkenness of the Liquor, "Submissions are due by the day after tomorrow."

"Younger Brother Kuroki Jiro, you should sign up too!" Mori Kogoro added, "I think you'd definitely get a good Score! Right, Master Seizan?"

"Impossible!" Hayakawa Seizan suddenly turned Cold.

Kuroki Jiro turned his Head in astonishment, looking at Hayakawa Seizan.

"It would only make me, his Teacher, a laughingstock," Hayakawa Seizan continued, "Kuroki Jiro's Ability is simply not sufficient to enter this Competition."

Kuroki Jiro lowered his Head and sighed.

Mori Kogoro tried to speak up for Kuroki Jiro, "But, I think his Paintings..."

"Mr. Mouri! Actually, Teacher Seizan is right, my Ability is still far from good enough," Kuroki Jiro Interrupt, then looked at Haibara Ai, his Tone softening a bit, "By the Way, Little Girl, how about you be my model? Your Gaze was so pure when you looked at the Warbler during the day. I'd like to capture that in a Painting, it would be good practice for me..."

"Younger Brother Kuroki Jiro, wait a moment," Mori Kogoro interrupted, then said to Hayakawa Seizan, "Master Seizan, how about you draw a Portrait of Ai instead?"

Haibara Ai didn't rush to refuse.

It seems that Uncle hasn't forgotten the Purpose of their visit.

Kuroki Jiro said in a low voice, "Mr. Mouri..."

Mori Kogoro ignored Kuroki Jiro, insisting, "Back when you were in Tokyo, didn't you often paint as a pastime?"

Hayakawa Seizan hesitated, "But tonight..."

"I think it's best to Never Mind, Mr. Mouri," Kuroki Jiro said, Getting Up, "Teacher Seizan has had some Liquor tonight..."

"Master Seizan used to paint even after drinking Liquor," Mori Kogoro said with a sincere smile, putting his palms together in Request, "Please, just consider this my Request, please promise me!"

Hayakawa Seizan couldn't refuse and agreed.

A Group of People moved to the Living Room. Haibara Ai sat down at the Table, glanced at Hissashi's Head peeking out from Chi Feichei's Collar, pulled him out, and placed him on the Table. "Can Hissashi join us?"

Seeing Haibara Ai skillfully pull a live Snake out from under Chi Feichei's Clothes, Kuroki Jiro and Hayakawa Seizan were startled.

Unlike a soft, limp Toy Snake, this Snake was covered in somewhat reflective, grey-black Scales. It was long, and its Tail curled with Strength. Its pitch-black Snake Eyes also looked particularly Cold. Seeing a Little Girl skillfully lift it and place it on the Table, no matter how you Look at it... it was unnerving.

Hayakawa Seizan's Drunkenness instantly dissipated by more than half, as he stared blankly at Hissashi on the Table.

He wanted to take back his earlier Statement, 'You're welcome to visit anytime, Mr. Chi.' He wondered if it was too late...

Kuroki Jiro thought about how the Snake had been pulled out from under Chi Feichei's Collar, and then he remembered that he had been sitting Beside Chi Feichei while drinking Liquor just now. He suddenly felt unwell.

"Honestly, why bring Hissashi over?" Mori Kogoro, seeing that Hayakawa Seizan and Kuroki Jiro's Faces were a bit Pale, Scratch Head and explained with a smile, "Master Seizan, don't worry, that's my Disciple Kuroki Jiro's Pet Snake. It generally doesn't bite."

Conan chuckled inwardly. Right, just 'generally doesn't bite'.

For him and Uncle, who had both been bitten, that's all they could Say.

"Young People's hobbies are really Weird these days..."

Hayakawa Seizan steadied himself, picked up a Charcoal Pencil, and started Observation for the Drawing. However, from the moment he started to draw, the slight Tremble in his Hand made the Lines crooked.

Even though Hayakawa Seizan tried his best to control it, the Lines he slowly put down on the Paper still couldn't outline a normal Human Shape.

Standing behind Hayakawa Seizan, Mori Kogoro, Mouri Ran, and Conan's Expressions became increasingly serious.

With his Hand trembling to this Degree, there's no way he can paint Paintings.

"I can't!"

Hayakawa Seizan suddenly tore a Paper Slip from the Sketchbook, crumpled it into a ball, and threw it in Front of him. He covered his still-trembling Right Arm with his Left Hand, and lowered his Head without a Word.

"I'm sorry, Master Seizan!" Mori Kogoro immediately prostrated himself on the ground in apology, saying apologetically, "It's my fault for being too Triumphant and making such an unreasonable Request."

"No," Hayakawa Seizan raised his Head, his Expression returning to Kind, and said with a laugh, "Actually, it's just that I've become increasingly intolerant to Liquor lately, hahaha..."

"Teacher Seizan," Kuroki Jiro said, trying to smooth things over, "I think it's been a long time since you went Sea Fishing, hasn't it? Might As Well go with Mr. Mouri and Mr. Chi Tomorrow."

"Good Idea," Mori Kogoro echoed. Now that they had confirmed the Situation, it was best to help Master Seizan Adjust and relax his Mood. "We Hope Master Seizan will do us the honor of joining us."

"Sea Fishing..." Hayakawa Seizan seemed tempted. "It's been a very long time since I went Sea Fishing."

Mori Kogoro turned his Head to look at Kuroki Jiro, who had stood up. "But, can we still go Sea Fishing in this heavy Rain?"

"The Weather Forecast says it will clear up by dawn Tomorrow, and the Temperature will rise as well," Kuroki Jiro said.

"In that case, I'll get some Rest early tonight," Hayakawa Seizan said, standing up, greeting them, and Turning Around to Go Out the Door.

"Master Seizan, please get some Rest early," Mouri Ran said politely, bringing Conan along.

"You too," Hayakawa Seizan replied politely before closing the Sliding Door.

After Hayakawa Seizan left, Mouri Ran complained, "Dad, honestly, you were too impolite just now."

Kuroki Jiro also said in a dissatisfied low voice, "Yes, Mr. Mouri, Teacher Seizan, he..."

"Teacher Seizan wanted to Confirm Master Seizan's Situation," Chi Feichei explained for Mori Kogoro.

"Huh?"

Mouri Ran and Kuroki Jiro were Be Stunned.

"Yes, Younger Brother Kuroki Jiro," Mori Kogoro said to Kuroki Jiro with a serious Expression, "Please don't take offense. I just wanted to See if Master Seizan's hand was trembling so badly he couldn't paint Paintings, just like you said. And if it's a Symptom of Hepatic Encephalopathy, it's best for Master Seizan to go to the Hospital for an Inspection of his Body, Hissashi..."

Chi Feichei, seeing Mori Kogoro Looked at him, Thought for a moment, "It's not very serious, but the trembling is in his entire Arm, and there are Signs of trembling in both Arms. There's definitely some Problem with his Nerves. It's best for him to go to the Hospital for a Checkup."

The Situation isn't so serious that it's uncontrollable, but even with Treatment, at best, it can only be controlled and alleviated. For a Painter, if their hand trembles so much they can't even draw Lines properly, they're basically finished.

Kuroki Jiro sighed. "I See. I'll try to find a Method to persuade Teacher Seizan to go to the Hospital."

In the Time that followed, Kuroki Jiro showed A Group of People around the Residence, and also took them to see his Studio where he painted Paintings.

On the Easel was a Painting. A pink Rose Bouquet contrasted with Green Leaves, making it look fresh and delicate.

"So, this is where you paint Paintings," Mori Kogoro said, looking around.

Mouri Ran's Line of Sight was drawn to the Painting on the Easel. She Stepped Forward and said, "It's so beautiful! Is this Rose Painting Mr. Kuroki's Work?"

Haibara Ai Stepped Forward and Looked. It was indeed very pleasing to the Eye.

"It's not finished yet," Kuroki Jiro said Kind-ly with a smile.

"Your use of color is really beautiful," Mouri Ran praised.

Kuroki Jiro pointed to the drawing Painting Tools on the Platform and explained with a smile, "I use this kind of Pastel mixed with Adhesive, and then paint with it."

Conan pointed at a Bottle and said Acting Cute, "This white stuff is also called Gofun, right?"

Chi Feichei Looked over. Using Gofun is a Technique in Japanese Painting. It's about applying a base layer of white Powder to the Paper before Painting.

"You even know that? Actually, it's Pigment made by grinding Oyster Shells into Powder." As Kuroki Jiro turned around with the Pigment Bottle, he bumped into the Canvas covering the Painting on the Easel next to him, revealing the Composition Sketch for the Mount Fuji Painting underneath.

Conan, Seeing this, was Be Stunned for a moment. "This Painting..."

Kuroki Jiro broke out in a sweat, picked up the Canvas and covered it back up, laughing, "I just wanted to study Teacher Seizan's Composition for that Mount Fuji Painting, so I sketched it out."

Mori Kogoro laughed, "You're really hardworking."

"Not at all. By the Way, it's getting late, let me take you to the Hotel to Rest," Kuroki Jiro said, heading towards the Door. "The Hotel is near the Vicinity of Mountain Road, just Outside the Bamboo Forest over there. It's less than a ten-minute walk from here. Let me get an Umbrella..."
