Chapter 635

Chapter 637: Someone, drag this troublemaker away!

"Hey, Mr. Kawabata..." Kyogo Kitaura's face was deathly pale, "Don't joke around like that."

"No, he's not joking," Mori Kogoro reached out and felt Shiro Kawabata's neck, his expression grave, "He's already dead."

"Ah!" The Waiter who rushed over to see what was happening exclaimed in surprise.

"Ran, Report to Police," Mori Kogoro said, then looked at Chi Feichei again, "Hassashi, give me a pair of Gloves, help keep an eye on things, and don't let anyone else touch anything on the Dining Table."

Conan, who was just about to ask for Gloves: "..."

Uncle's reaction is too quick today!

Generally, Chi Feichei only carries two pairs of Gloves; first come, first served.

Chi Feichei reached into his Pocket, took out a pair of Disposable Gloves, and handed them to Mori Kogoro.

Conan looked up at Chi Feichei, "Brother Chi..."

"That's all." Chi Feichei said, "I'll keep the last pair for myself."

He had been keeping a close eye on the original Murderer and those at the same table, and no one should have been able to Take Action, yet Shiro Kawabata still died.

It's rare to encounter a Case that isn't so boring, and he wants to figure out what happened.

Conan: "..."

Just as he thought.

Never mind, he'll observe for now.

Mori Kogoro leaned closer to Shiro Kawabata's face and sniffed, "There's a strong Bitter Almond Smell coming from his mouth..."

"Cyanide Poisoning," Chi Feichei stated the Answer. He wondered why there was so much Cyanide around here; whenever there's Poisoning, Cyanide is always the first Suspect. "Before Mr. Kawabata collapsed, no one approached him from behind or touched the Food in front of him, and he doesn't seem like someone who would commit Suicide..."

"In Other Words, this is an impossible Crime, but it's also Possible..." Mori Kogoro looked at the Waiter standing aside, drenched in cold sweat, Half-Moon Eyes narrowed, "You wouldn't be Poisoning the Meals in your restaurant, would you?"

"H-How could we?" The Waiter hurriedly explained, "How could we possibly do such a thing! Besides, once the Meals are served, we can't be sure what this Mr. will eat. There are other Guests at the Table as well; if someone else gets Poisoning..."

Mori Kogoro stroked his chin, "So, you're saying you planned to Murder someone at random?"

Conan stumbled in place.

Hey, hey, while food Poisoning and random Murder are Possibilities, shouldn't you find Evidence to support that Statement before making accusations?

Don't just spout baseless Ideas without Evidence to back them up, okay...?

"No one at the Table deliberately approached Mr. Kawabata, but Conan and I, sitting on either side of him, wouldn't need to get close to administer Poison," Chi Feichei continued. "So, everyone should attest that I didn't approach or Contact the Corpse, and then we can wait for the Police to arrive and conduct a Poison Reaction Test."

Conan was taken aback, then understood.

Correct, the only ones who could easily administer Poison are him and Chi Feichei.

He's an Elementary School Student now, so he probably won't be Suspect, but Chi Feichei is another story.

Luckily, Chi Feichei hadn't deliberately approached the Corpse just now, nor had he touched anything unnecessarily.

If any Poison got on his body or hands and was detected by the Police, it would be difficult to explain.

...

Half an Hour later, the Police arrived.

Leading the team was the Kanagawa Prefectural Police, with a male Police Officer who looked very similar to Mori Kogoro's fervent admirer, Inspector Yokomizo.

The only difference was that Inspector Yokomizo had Curly Hair, while this Police Officer had a buzz cut and looked much more serious.

Chi Feichei Looked and understood the other party's Identity—Inspector Yokomizo's Younger Brother, Heng Gou Jugo.

These brothers were a bit hard to tell apart; he used to get confused about who was the Older Brother and who was the Younger Brother.

After briefly understanding the Situation, Chi Feichei indeed became the prime Suspect.

He was sitting to Shiro Kawabata's left, making it too easy to administer Poison, while Conan, being an Elementary School Student, wasn't under Suspicion.

"We need to Inspect your Personal Belongings and conduct a Poison Reaction Test." A Police Officer said to Chi Feichei.

Conan glanced sideways. Inspect Chi Feichei's Personal Belongings? He was also curious about what Things Chi Feichei might have in his Pocket.

Chi Feichei nodded Cooperatively and began taking Things out.

Pants Pocket:

Mobile Phone, Driver's License, Lighter, Key, Cigarette, Car Insurance Card, Personal Medical Card, Bank card, Cash, a pair of Disposable Medical Glove, three Evidence Bag.

The Police Officer standing in front of Chi Feichei was taken aback. "This is..."

"What's wrong?" Heng Gou Jugo, who was getting briefed on the Situation over there, Turn Head.

"Uh, nothing, this..." The Police Officer picked up an Evidence Bag and Looked at it. "It looks like an Evidence Bag used by our Police in Case Solving."

He suspected it might be a Police Colleague on Vacation, but even Police Officers on Vacation wouldn't carry Evidence Bags, right?

"I got them from the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department." Chi Feichei explained, "My Teacher is a Detective, and sometimes when we Go Out to Investigate Cases, I carry Evidence Bags with me so it's Convenient to Hand Over anything we find to the Police."

"I-Is that so?" The Police Officer standing in front of Chi Feichei sweatdropped. "No wonder you also carry Disposable Gloves."

Heng Gou Jugo was Speechless for a moment. Are Detectives nowadays this Professional? Making their Apprentices carry Evidence Bags and Gloves?

Chi Feichei continued taking Things out.

Left Pocket:

Small Waterproof Flashlight, Small Notebook, Oil-based Pen, Folding Knife, Chocolate...

"And what's this?" Heng Gou Jugo leaned forward to look at a square package larger than Candy.

"Compressed Rations." Chi Feichei said.

Heng Gou Jugo looked at Chi Feichei, Speechless. "This kind of Dry Food is hard to come by, right? People usually bring Biscuits or something similar when they Travel to stave off hunger, which I understand, but very few people carry this kind of Dry Food. What do you bring this for?"

"To handle a Crisis. If there's a Traffic Jam on the Road and I get Hungry, I can use Dry Food to fill my Belly. It's more filling than Biscuits, and while Chocolate only replenishes Heat, Compressed Rations combined with Water I can buy at Roadside Service Area or Gas Station are enough to handle hunger..." Chi Feichei explained, continuing to take Things out.

In the right Pocket of his Coat, there was a pile of Pills and bottles.

Heng Gou Jugo picked up a strip of Pills, probably cut from a larger sheet, with only five left. "And what's this?"

Chi Feichei: "Motion Sickness Medicine."

Heng Gou Jugo: "And this is..."

Chi Feichei: "Cold Remedy Powder."

Heng Gou Jugo: "And this is..."

Chi Feichei: "Gastrointestinal Medicine."

Hemostatic Medicine, Disposable Alcohol Wipes, Anti-Inflammatory Medicine, Gauze, Band-aid, Allergy Medicine...

Chi Feichei also took out a Small Syringe, which clearly contained some liquid.

Heng Gou Jugo's Face became even more Serious. "What's this?"

"Anti-Sea Snake Venom Serum." Chi Feichei said.

"We'll need to conduct a Poison Reaction Test." Heng Gou Jugo said seriously.

Chi Feichei Nodded, indicating he understood.

Not just the Serum, but other Things will need to be tested as well. He understood...

Heng Gou Jugo looked at Chi Feichei's Calm Expression and overly Calm Reaction, and the corner of his mouth twitched slightly. Meeting someone who seemed to understand the Procedure and was so Cooperative, he was Speechless. "You're carrying Anti-Sea Snake Venom Serum. Are you planning to go to the Yokohama Bay Area later?"

"No, I have a Snake." Chi Feichei said.

Hassashi also Cooperatively poked his head out from under his Collar, Staring at Heng Gou Jugo and flicking his Snake Tongue.

"Ah!" The Police Officer who had been in front of Chi Feichei earlier jumped in fright and Subconsciously took two steps back.

Heng Gou Jugo glared at his Subordinates, Black Lines on Forehead appearing.

Was such a big Reaction necessary?

Although looking at this Young Man's bewitching and eerie Purple Eyes, he seemed very Indifferent, so Indifferent it was almost emotionless. Add to that a Snake poking its head out from his chin, pale Skin, and sharply defined features—no matter how you looked at it, he seemed a bit sinister...

No, just having a Snake on you is sinister enough...

But, as a Police Officer, he couldn't back down!

"Is that Snake Venomous?" Heng Gou Jugo asked sternly.

"Mild Toxin, non-lethal. And it's a Rear-Fanged Venomous Snake, so its Poisonous Fangs generally can't bite humans, and even extracting Venom is difficult," Chi Feichei said calmly. "You can Inspect the Deceased for similar Wounds to rule out the Suspicion of it biting him to death."

Heng Gou Jugo understood that Chi Feichei wasn't planning to Hand Over the Snake for Inspection. Considering Chi Feichei had been Cooperative so far, he Nodded. "If we find Snake Venom Components on or inside the Deceased, we'll Request you to Cooperate with Investigation."

"Okay." Chi Feichei picked up Hassashi and tossed him to Conan. "Conan, take Hassashi."

Heng Gou Jugo watched a Snake fly through the Air and get caught by an Elementary School Student. The Snake remained docile, and the Kid wasn't even surprised. He suddenly wondered if he was falling behind the Era.

Did Young People and Kids nowadays like Creatures like Snakes?

He couldn't understand it.

"You really come Prepared when you Go Out," Heng Gou Jugo said, seeing that Chi Feichei had taken out all his Personal Belongings. He Turn Head to look at the Bag that held the Things. Many items were small, but there were so many and they were so varied that testing would take a long time. It was the first time he'd seen someone Go Out carrying so much Medicine, and yet they might all be useful in an emergency. "Do you always bring all this Stuff when you Go Out?"

"It depends on the Situation, not necessarily these exact Things," Chi Feichei paused. "What I used to carry doesn't seem to be related to this Case."

If he were to really get into it, there would be a lot to talk about.

If he was going out to the Sea, he'd also bring a super-small Oxygen Cylinder, inflatable flotation devices that could draw Air from the outside, and it would be best to prepare a small bottle of Fresh Water before boarding... and so on.

If he was going to the Mountains or the Wilderness, he'd bring a Folding Knife, good quality String, a general Antidote... and so on.

If he was going on a Bounty Mission or an Organization Task, he wouldn't need to bring Cold Medicine, Motion Sickness Medicine, or things like that. He'd need to bring Hemostatic and Anti-Inflammatory Medication.

He wouldn't bring Chocolate or Dry Food and things like that, not because they weren't useful, but because they took up too much Space.

More Pocket Space needed to be freed up to carry Weapons, tools for collecting Things, Steel Wire, small Mechanisms, and other Things that were Lethal or could help with escape.

Heng Gou Jugo couldn't argue. What someone usually carried when Going Out was indeed irrelevant to this Case. He just needed to Confirm that Chi Feichei was always like this and that it wasn't Abnormality. He Lower Head, Looked at the Investigation Record, picked up his Pen, and asked, "Last question: what kind of Work do you do?"

Chi Feichei: "Veterinarian."

Heng Gou Jugo, who was just about to write 'Detective', Looked up in shock. "Wh-What? But didn't you just say your Teacher is a Detective?"

"But I'm a Veterinarian." Chi Feichei said.

Heng Gou Jugo: "..."

Someone, drag this troublemaker away!

'But I'm a Veterinarian' indeed.

The Teacher is a Detective, but why is the Apprentice a Veterinarian? Can studying Veterinary Medicine help with Case Solving?

And come on, come on, come on, look at all this Stuff. What's related to being a Veterinarian?

First Aid supplies, Case Investigation supplies, daily emergency supplies, and even the Medication is for humans. What's related to being a Veterinarian?

He suspected this guy was a fake Veterinarian!

Seeing Heng Gou Jugo's suspicious Face, Chi Feichei added, "I have a Qualification Certificate, though I didn't bring it today. I graduated from Todai University with a Veterinary Medicine Major this year and used to work as a Surgeon at Shinchi Pet Hospital. I'm currently a Hospital Consultant. All of this can be verified."

Not a fake Veterinarian?

Heng Gou Jugo, Half-Moon Eyes narrowed, Lower Head and wrote in the Investigation Notes, "So, a Veterinarian who doesn't do his job properly, huh..."

Chi Feichei: "..."

He was being so Cooperative, and he was still getting teased.
