Chapter 1128: The Terminated Clue
Twenty minutes later, a yellow Beetle pulled up to a nearby crossroads and stopped.
Doctor Agasa sat in the driver's seat, waiting for a while. He watched an elementary school student running towards the car, holding an umbrella. He recognized it was Conan.
Conan put away his umbrella beside the car, opened the back door, and quickly got in, panting.
"Shinichi, I've brought the clothes you asked me to," Doctor Agasa turned to look at the back seat. He found Conan's face was pale, and he only thought Conan was cold. He jokingly said, "You're so careless! You actually fell into a puddle. Luckily, the change of clothes you left at my place last time are still here. Otherwise, I'd have to go to the Detective Agency to get them for you…"
"Forget that for now, Doctor!" Conan finally caught his breath. "After you got here, did you see any suspicious people passing by or any suspicious cars nearby?"
Doctor Agasa recalled, "It's raining today, everyone had umbrellas, and there were no suspicious cars nearby… Did something happen? You need to clarify what you mean by 'suspicious' and 'strange' before I can answer you."
"The characteristics should be very obvious," Conan looked directly at Doctor Agasa, his gaze serious and heavy. "For example, a fellow dressed in all black, or a Black Porsche 356A!"
Doctor Agasa's face instantly changed. "C-Could it be…"
"Shh…" Conan raised his hand, signaling Doctor Agasa not to speak too loudly. He lowered his voice and said, "I saw people from That Organization. I'll tell you the details later. Just drive forward along this road, and speed up!"
"Ah, okay!" Doctor Agasa nodded nervously, started the car, and drove forward, watching the front and asking, "Shinichi, w-what's going on?"
Conan calmed his rapidly beating heart, whether from nervousness or excitement. He took the bag from the back seat. "I told you before, at Kenkyo Station last time, I heard the voice of the person from the Organization with the code name Raki…"
"The one who almost got you discovered?" Doctor Agasa asked.
"Correct, I won't mistake his voice!" Conan took out a clean change of clothes from the bag. He had to change out of his wet clothes. "Actually, I'd seen that guy even earlier, during our invitation to the Twin Towers. The Sniper standing beside Gin was him!"
Doctor Agasa drove seriously, accelerating along the road.
"When Programmer Mr. Yuan was murdered, the Silver Dinner Knife in his left hand indicated 'Gin', and the strange posture of his right finger was like the letter 'R'. At that time, I saw the Rye Whiskey on the wine cabinet, and I thought 'R' referred to 'Rye'," Conan took off his wet clothes and analyzed seriously. "But I asked Haibara. Although she didn't say why, she seemed unwilling to mention this code name, but she was certain it wasn't 'Rye'. And the person who acted with Gin at that time was Raki…"
Doctor Agasa understood. "In other words, the 'R' in Mr. Yuan's dying message…"
"I think it's correct," Conan affirmed. "It refers to the 'R' in 'Raki'!"
Doctor Agasa thought of the murdered Yuan Jiaming and the exploded Twin Towers, breaking into a cold sweat. Those were definitely dangerous people. "Then what happened today?"
"I saw him on the top floor of an apartment building on the roadside, recognized his face, so I wanted to secretly follow him," Conan explained. "But he stopped at the alley entrance. I was startled when I chased him and fell into the rainwater."
"You weren't spotted, were you?" Doctor Agasa asked quickly.
"No, he shouldn't have suspected me," Conan changed his clothes, his face serious. "I heard him call his companion. Because something happened in the apartment building, he was worried that the Police Officer would come to this vicinity, so he decided to change his original plan and leave here. That guy is cautious, even guarding against Children. His anti-tracking ability is also very strong. It's inconvenient for me to appear in his line of sight, so I asked you to drive to this crossroads to wait for me. Judging from the direction he left, after reaching the street corner, he either turned left to the crossroads where you parked, or turned right to another crossroads…"
"I see! That's why you asked me to drive forward along the road. If he didn't pass the crossroads where I parked, he might have gone to the other side," Doctor Agasa understood and reminded, "But Shinichi, if his companion drove to pick him up nearby, or if he drove away, we're probably too late to chase him now. It's impossible to catch up with him, and there are so many small alleys on the road. Your Raki might have left through the alleys."
"Let's try," Conan was a little helpless, putting his wet clothes into the bag. "I originally planned to stick an eavesdropping device on his shoes when I got up after falling, but his companion suddenly called, and he retreated under the eaves of the Convenience Store to answer the phone. I was dodged. After that, he was watching me, and I couldn't approach him rashly or follow closely. It takes time for you to come, so I can only try at the crossroads… By the way, Doctor, if you find any suspicious people or cars, don't approach rashly. Raki said to the person on the phone, 'Don't worry about the security issue, no one can get within 500 meters,' which means that after changing the plan, there may be Snipers or their people conducting surveillance near their meeting place!"
Doctor Agasa drove to the other crossroads, turned left and right, making a circle, but found no suspicious cars or people from the Organization, so he had to return.
Conan felt unspeakable disappointment and annoyance.
Obviously, this attempt failed.
The other party might have left by car, or might have entered a certain alley.
Because it had been raining, and this was a busy street, even if there were any traces, they would have been destroyed before they arrived.
Although he hadn't had high hopes, if he could track that guy, he might be able to find out more intelligence about That Organization.
Ask passersby about that guy's whereabouts?
No, if the passerby happens to be someone from That Organization, or if someone from That Organization hears the rumors, they won't be able to find out any information, and they might even be targeted by the Organization.
In this way, the clue was interrupted again, and he still couldn't do anything. It was frustrating.
If he had tried again at that time, if he could put a transmitter on the other party, he might be able to track him all the way now…
Doctor Agasa parked the car on the roadside and noticed Conan lowering his head without saying a word through the Interior Rearview Mirror. He tried to appease him, "Shinichi, why don't we try another circle? Maybe the other party went into an alley just now and is now back on the main road?"
"No need, Doctor, I was too anxious," Conan adjusted his mentality, raised his head and smiled, his tone becoming lighter. "I didn't have much certainty of tracking him again, and it would be difficult to find that guy again. But since I already know his code name, appearance, and voice, next time I meet him, I can definitely lock him down immediately! You can drive around nearby, and I'll go back and see Haibara and Police Officer Takagi. I'll contact you later…"
Seeing Conan get out of the car, Doctor Agasa quickly urged, "Be careful!"
"I know," Conan opened his umbrella and closed the car door. "Don't worry!"
Doctor Agasa watched Conan walk away under his umbrella, still feeling worried.
Why would people from That Organization appear nearby? Could Shinichi and Ai be in trouble?
Conan returned downstairs to the apartment building and found that Sato Miwako and Ninzaburo Shiratori were already on the scene with their team.
Ayumi, Genta, and Mitsuhiko saw Conan come back and immediately surrounded him.
"Conan, where did you go just now?"
"Eh? Why did you change your clothes?"
"Didn't you see a suspicious person upstairs and chase after him?" Haibara Ai looked at Conan's somewhat heavy expression, unaware that the Famous Detective had already encountered a dangerous fellow from That Organization. She teased, "Looking at your dejected and puzzled expression, you didn't catch him?"
"Suspicious person?" Ayumi looked towards Wataru Takagi. "In this incident, didn't the robber fall off the railing and die?"
"I fell when I ran down and got my clothes wet, so I asked Doctor to bring me clothes," Conan said with half-moon eyes. "I just went to the street corner to change clothes with the Doctor…"
"Did the Doctor come?"
"He happened to be nearby buying things. I'll contact him later."
Conan fooled them, saw a strange Man standing in front of a truck, and after quietly asking the other Junior Detective League members, his attention gradually shifted to the robber's falling incident.
…
Three hours later, at 7 pm, Conan solved the case and called Doctor Agasa, asking him to come and pick them up.
Soon, a Beetle drove to the street corner.
Taking advantage of the opening while the Children were getting into the car, Conan leaned forward from the back seat and whispered in Doctor Agasa's ear, "Doctor, how about it? Did you find anything nearby?"
Doctor Agasa shook his head and whispered, "No."
Haibara Ai glanced up, pretending not to notice, and lowered her head to open a magazine, preparing to pass the time on the road.
Edogawa was being secretive, probably telling the Doctor about the Organization. She didn't ask. As long as she kept an eye on the Doctor, that was enough. These two always talked at the Doctor's House, giving her plenty of opportunities to eavesdrop…
After all the Children got into the car, Doctor Agasa drove away from the original place.
Conan sat down in his seat, looked out of the car window, and stared blankly for a while. Seeing Haibara Ai concentrating on her book beside him, he still couldn't help but ask, leaning closer and whispering, "Hey, Haibara, is there anyone in That Organization with the code name Raki?"
Haibara Ai looked up at Conan. "Why? Did you meet Raki?"
"No," Conan suppressed his rapidly beating heart from anticipation, maintaining a calm and confident expression. "Recently, international reports have been about the Turkish Alcohol Ban. Raki is Turkey's national liquor. Although the Alcohol Restriction Order is not only aimed at Raki, Raki has been the hardest hit. I just suddenly thought, I wonder if That Organization has anyone with the code name Raki."
"Maybe," Haibara Ai lowered her head to look at the magazine page, her expression calm. "I don't know all the members. When I was in the Organization, I hadn't met many people."
